Modern Mama…

Yes, occasionally this mama can…and does crank out a modern quilt!  What’s not to love about this quilt…it’s soft and fresh and yet bold and bright!  The fabric is called “Horizon” by Kate Spain…the same line that I used in my daughter’s signature quilt!  LOVE THIS FABRIC!  Sew pretty!

The pattern is called ‘Patchwork Chevron’ by Jeni Baker for Moda Bake Shop…it was fast and easy to sew UNTIL you join the rows!  I had a dickens of a time!  The blocks would NOT, could NOT line up!  I tried to fudge it…but ended up picking it out!

FINALLY…I read the directions!  Yup, when all else fails get those instructions out!  One simple line in the pattern said it all…Match up the BLOCK seams.  Don’t worry about the patchwork seams; they won’t match!  EUREKA!  So that’s what I did and it all fell into place!  (can you see where the patchwork doesn’t match?  Find the point in the chevron and follow that row across…see how the patchwork is off?  But at each zig or zag it all falls into place!

You really don’t notice when you see the whole quilt top…well you wouldn’t notice if you COULD see the whole quilt top!  No my holder isn’t a midget…this is one BIG quilt!!

So you see, Mama CAN go modern once in awhile!  If all modern quilts were this pretty I think I could be swayed over to the light, bright side!

Have a Super Saturday and Happy Stitching!~P

  1. A great looking quilt, Paulette. Who knew reading the instructions would make everything right? I've been working a little bit with modern fabrics using a few pattern examples from Red Pepper Quilts. She really has a wonderful eye for colour. I still like the CW repro fabrics best, and am heading back to my stash to start something new. Happy Easter, hope the Easter Bunny brings you a few chocolate surprises.

  2. Love your modern quilt. If I saw it and didn't know who made it, you would be the last on my list of possible makers! I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sweet and kind comments about the death of my grandson. You will never know how much I appreciate the comforting support that brought me. Love you. Bev Oh, and btw, I found a stack of polka dot wools in bright, spring colors. I have no idea what to do with them but I bet you would. Any suggestions? Thanks again! XO

  5. It looks wonderful to me, I am so bad at matching my seams and the last one, I realized what I should do but no patience to take it out.
