She done GOOD!

Well my baby is officially a LAWYER!  What an emotional day it was! Just writing on Maggie’s Graduation card had me blubbering like a baby!  When hubby gave me ‘that look’…I stated that they were happy tears!  Sheesh…men!  They just don’t see things the way WE do!

Anyways, the ‘Called to the Bar Ceremony’ was lovely…just perfect, with two or three heartfelt speeches..enough to bring a few more tears…and then all 73 candidates were sworn in…and everyone said “I DO!”  and then they proceeded to sign their degrees…the ones that will later get framed and hang in their offices!

Yes, it was a VERY PROUD day to be a mama!!  It’s so wonderful to see your children reach for the stars and nab one along the way!!  Well done, Maggie!  Enjoy your success and all the accolades that go with it!!  You so deserve it!!

AND…I hope the road that you take is always lined with cherry blossoms!

Now where’s my kleenex…!

Fabric Depot

You know how Home Depot has EVERYTHING for the handy man…well Fabric Depot, in Portland, OR, is just like that, only for the Quilter/Sewer!

Where does one START?? P1170823

ONE and a HALF Acres of building, housing EVERYTHING you need to build a quilt…and then some!  It’s enough to make you glaze over and come unglued!

P1170829

They had every fabric you could want…Moda, Kaufman, Henry Glass, Buggy Barn, Batiks, Kona…and sew on…but I will be honest with you…the prices for fabrics wasn’t cheap…in fact they were the most expensive that I have seen while down in the States!!  Fabric ran for $11.99-$13.99!!  OUCH!  Even with their 20% off sale, the prices were more than at Pioneer Quilts..which made me wonder what’s going on??

My guess is Fabric Depot jacks their prices way up so that when they do have a really good sale, quilter will think they are getting a great deal.  Why not just have everyday fair prices…?

Throughout the store there were areas specializing in certain items…like lighting…

P1170830

And Accuquilt GO! cutters..

P1170831

Tons of patterns….

P1170832

Excellent selection of buttons…

P1170836

I mean a REALLY EXCELLENT selection of every button known to mankind!!P1170837

Three rows like this one of ribbons and trim….

P1170838P1170840

And lots of brands of threads…

P1170842

Yup…this store has EVERYTHING!  BUT no deals…DARN!!  In fact I found things to be expensive!  For instance…DMC embroidery floss at JoAnn’s was 39cents and at Fabric Depot it was 69cents…that’s one  heck of a mark up!

P1170843

I think if I lived near a Fabric Depot I would try to take advantage of using their coupons and shopping when there was a 35% off sale…or just shop for those hard to find things and bite the bullet.

P1170846

Yup. I was pretty discouraged…until I saw this sign!!  YARD SALES is my middle name!

P1170826

Fabric in this room was only $5-6 a yard!  Now you are talking my language! haha

P1170827

All in all, I really liked Fabric Depot (how could you not!)…and had there been a sale happening..I mean a REALLY GOOD sale then I would have LOVED Fabric Depot!

So what did I buy??  WOOL!  It was $26 a yard with 20% off!  Not a bad price but certainly not great…BUT I have been looking for black textured wool…which is hard to find!  SEW… I bit the bullet…

P1170904

P1170906

P1170897

And I found some nice CW shirting fabric for $5.50 a yd.

P1170903

Plus a couple of patterns.

P1170909

Yes, I think it was a good thing that Fabric Depot wasn’t having a Sale!!  Our little trailer was getting fatter and fatter the closer we got to the border!

AND yes…they let us across…barely!!

Have a FUN Friday and Happy Quilting!~P

Pioneer Quilts..Part 2!

Before I show you more eye candy from Pioneer Quilts in Portland,OR I just have to say that the sales ladies at this quilt shop were wonderful..helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and as you can see…they let me take all the pictures that I wanted!!

As I wandered around the shop, I saw this simple wool quilt and it reminded me of the quilts my mom use to make..out of scraps of whatever was on hand and tied with bits of wool yarn!  Lord knows..I do have SCRAPS!!

P1170867

This quilt really reminded me of Kathy Schmitz’s pattern ‘Twirly Birds’ but this has appliqued birds on it not embroidered…very sweet!

P1170868

Tons of quilts in every nook and cranny…

P1170869

And look at all the Japanese Fabrics…Daiwabo…this entire two rows and they went over to the other side!  I bought several 1/2 yd. cuts at Road to California for the Heart to Hand Quilt called “Heart to Home”…I needed a couple more and had a hard time narrowing down my selection!!  So many to choose from!

P1170870

They had this lovely quilt on display made with these Japanese fabrics.  Gorgeous!

P1170871

This quilt made my heart skip a beat!!  Another of Bonnie Sullivans’ called ‘Timberline’…..STUNNING!

P1170872

There is just too darn much to take in!  Did I tell you that they sell Civil War Fabric??  They also sell Batiks and many of the Brights too.

P1170873

But you know me…I focused on what I like…nary a glance at the batiks!  :)  Look at those little Civil War Quilts..so sweet!

P1170874

TONS of wool pennies and wool projects!

P1170875

Little Spring Sue Spargo pillows and notebook covers….

P1170876

AND YES, there was a SALES ROOM!

P1170877

And a huge classroom…lucky ladies who live HERE…where I found a few more gems like this one….

P1170878

And this one..

P1170879

Loved this one!!  Simple yet beautiful!!

P1170880

And how cute is this..would make a wonderful gift, wouldn’t it?!

P1170881

Pioneer Quilts ALSO had a Christmas room FULL of Christmasy goodies!

P1170883

I have the pattern to ‘Seven Santas’..but seeing it made up has spurred me on!  I am going to be digging THIS ONE out of the pattern pit and putting it on the ‘To Do List’!!

P1170884

I Red heartthis one!!  I might already have this one….will check the Pattern Pit for this one too!  It just looks TOO familiar….(is this a sign of old age.?)

P1170885P1170886P1170887P1170888

There was just TOO MUCH Christmas goodness to behold!

P1170889

Enough to melt the heart of most woolies…that’s for sure!

P1170891

Now we are moving out of the Christmas Room.and back to the wool section…

P1170892

Look they even had a Polka Dot section!!

P1170893

If this shop hasn’t been featured in ‘Quilt Sampler Magazine’ I don’t know what they are waiting for!!  This shop has EVERYTHING!!

P1170894

And look what I spotted going out the door…yes it’s ‘Nutmeg Hare’ latest pattern… ‘Will You Be My Friend’!!  Darn…I would have bought THAT ONE for sure…!  Oh well..there is next year!!

P1170895

And YES…I will be back!!  Did I tell you how easy this shop is to get to? If you are going to be driving through Portland you have GOT to stop!   HERE are the directions!  And the good thing is there is a hospital right across the street..just in case your heart should start acting up…you know skipping a few beats or stopping all together!

So there you have it!  Yes, Pioneer House got a two thumbs up..wish I had more thumbs!

Tomorrow I will show you Portland’s Fabric Depot…stay tuned!!

Have a Thrilling Thursday and Happy Quilting!~P

PS…Yes, we are back in Canada…staying at an RV Park in Vancouver, BC!  Tomorrow is my daughter, Maggie’s ‘Call to the Bar Ceremony’..(and no she’s not a drinker..hahaha)…she will be sworn in as a LAWYER!  We are so excited and  proud of her!!
