First Test Drive…

Yesterday I was up bright and early as this was the BIG day…to take my baby out for her first test ride!  Hubby helped me load the machine as she is one heavy brute and then we hooked her up!  There was the Cruise Control to figure out and all the other things to hook up and plug in before we were ready to fly!P1200079

I can see from the pics that the ‘quilt’ was a little loose and sloppy…:o0 !!  But it’s all good…we are learning and we have to start somewhere!

I found some muslin in my stash and following the video, loaded her on the frame.  Hubby had his camera ready for those ‘first baby step’!  I didn’t realize that he was taking a mini movie! I would have slowed down…and drove more cautiously! :o)  But there were no speeding tickets or crashes!

All in all, I had fun!  As you can see, I have A LOT more test driving to do and a lot more to learn!  There is much more to driving this thing than meets the eye!  So much to check and look out for (darn BLIND SPOTS!!) and so many things to go wrong!  BUT I can see that with one of these brutes you could quite easily bang off a quilt in no time…that is…once you know what you are doing and how to do it!  I know, I know …it all comes down to PRACTICE!

So PRACTICE I will!

Have a SUNNY Sunday and Happy Quilting!~P

  2. Wow! You did a great job! I predict that you will make many gorgeous quilts on that thing! I'd love to have one. Did you have any problems with the back? That's what I always wondered about. I'm too old and fat to crawl under that thing and check it out. How does that work? Do you have mirrors to look? Or, do you send your hubby under there? See...these are the wacky things I think about...the top looks awesome! Can't wait to see what all you do with it!

  7. Are you sure you didn't get a speeding ticket?

I'll bet you can give Mario Andretti a run for his money!

You go girl! We'll be seeing those quilts come off the machine in droves now. I'm so excited for you.

  8. Paulette--you are doing extremely well!! And I'm not kidding!! You have round loops instead of square loops--that's hard to do your first time out! Another hint, don't distort your quilt backing with the side clamps, they are there to support only, not stretch.

  10. It looks like you are going to move on to the "real" thing in no time. Just think of all the piecing work you can do in the desert and bring home to quilt. What fun!. Thanks for sharing.

  11. Wow Paulette, very impressive. I didn't realize it was all free hand work...means you have to think really fast.Obviously the machine is the next step for you as a quilter.

  13. you are a natural!! I have a suggestion and you may already know this...there are clips at the end of stretchy tape that you clip to the edges that are not rolled up. it keeps the top a little taut when you get to the side edges. how am i ever going to keep up with you!
