Yikes...but I have a ton of UFOs to finish! The problem is, I also have baby quilts to make...and you know babies! They arrive regardless if there are quilts waiting for them or not! Who am I kidding...I have SQUIRREL SYNDROME...the glimpse of another quilt project and I am off and sewing!
BUT I did finish off a UFO this week...it's big and it's old... years old...the nine patches were made ages ago...When I spotted an antique nine patch quilt on Bonnie Hunter's Blog, I knew that that was the quilt for ME...I whipped out the bag of nine patches and cut out the low volume blocks (see sometimes Squirrel Syndrome is a good thing!!)...and presto...Bonnie Hunter's antique quilt!
Some close-up pics...as you can see, I finished off by sewing on matching polk-a-dot binding. I liked the way that it didn't distract your eye from the rest of the quilt. You notice the red sashing...and the scrap-happy blocks! I do LOVE this quilt!
I did a small tighter meander for the quilting because today I want to wash the quilt and soften it up and... hopefully... it will wrinkle up like a REAL antique quilt!! Sometimes wrinkles are a good thing!
I have to say that UFO Busting is VERY satisfying work!
Have a FUN Friday and Happy Stitching!~P

Very nice finish and it's so inviting, I just want to snuggle in it on this dreary day.
ReplyDeleteI love it! It's beautiful!! Congrats on a wonderful finish! I love scrappy quilts like this!
ReplyDeleteI love it. AWesome job all the way around. Congratulations as another one bites the dust!
ReplyDeleteMary
Such a happy, scrappy quilt P and I agree with you about washing it as soon as possible to make it soft and vintage looking.
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a scrap happy quilt. Love this one!
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern and the colors you used. What a great quilt.
ReplyDeleteBravo to you!!! I love your antique quilt. Now, onto the next one, eh!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt, P. Looks very vintage, the best of your UFOs so far. Glad you finished it.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this quilt Paulette. Simple yet elegant.
ReplyDeleteReally like this quilt. Oh crap, now I have another one to add to my TDL.
ReplyDeleteNicely done Paulette although at first I thought the binding was red missed the polka dots against your carpeting in the first picture! Congrats on the finish!
ReplyDeleteIt is marvelous!! Truly a vintage feel, and oh, so inviting!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous quilt. Gold stars for you on the finish. I admire the dedication in finishing. I've always wanted a quilt like that, but, not happening in this life time. I'd get bored too fast and if things hang around too long-----out they go!
ReplyDeleteAnother beauty! Really like the low volume and checkerboard combination together. Now I have squirrel syndrome...
ReplyDeleteHi Squirrelly Girl! I have the same problem! Your scrappy quilt is so sweet, so warm and inviting, so homey. All it needs is to be draped over a mooshy chair, & tumbling down onto a braided rug in front of a fireplace! I love it! Don't Forget! Finish It February is right around the corner!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt, who doesn't love a scrappy nine patch, they are such fun!
ReplyDeleteAnother winner! Love this quilt and the fabrics are perfect. Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt and love the antique look. I am still in a tizzy, and now I know I will never get things done like I wanted, I seriously have to work all year for next year;)
ReplyDeleteDebbie

ReplyDeleteLovin your scrappy nine patch Paulette! Especially the pop of red sashing fabric. You certainly have completed quite a few UFO's this year!
ReplyDeletePlease excuse me. I have a question about a tutorial you posted quite some time ago. I just wrote a comment on that post before I realized that I could write on a more recent entry. I am sure there is a better way of asking, but I'm going to try it here.
ReplyDeleteThe tutorial I am interested in is one in which Delores showed others about a very clever pot holder with curved inner pieces. My question is about the heat resistant part of the pot holder. Do you find that the one layer of thermal batting (InsulBrite?) is sufficient or should one use two layers? Thank you so much for bearing with me. Thank you for any advice you may have for me.
This nine patch quilt is lovely, now I'm adding a nine patch scrap happy quilt to my list of quilts I gotta make! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your nine patch. Just wondering how big were your 9 patches and what's the size of this quilt. I did an exchange with my "Historical Society" for 9 patches with repro fabric, and I love your layout.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
OMG...absolutely LOVE your scrap- happy quilt!! Beautiful Paulette!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt and especially that polka dot border!
