The Magic of Monterey…

Our ‘little house on wheels’ has been plunked down in beautiful Monterey for a few days…the beaches are amazing!! Incredibly beautiful and the sun is shining!

We are staying at an RV Park right on the dunes…you walk down this trail over the dunes…

and this is what you find~ beautiful spectacular beaches!

Yup…the pups enjoyed the beach as only dogs can!

After a long walk on the beach we headed for Monterey…and the famous 17 Mile Drive.  The highlight for me was seeing ‘The Lone Cypress’… breathtaking!

For hubby it was seeing Pebble Beach Golf Course up close and personal!

We stumbled on this cottage down on the beach beside Monterey’s waterfront…would this not make the perfect location for a Quilt Shop?  Just LOOK at the roof…it looks like a lovely quilt has been tossed over it!

Do you see it too?…or does this just reinforce it..I have Quilting on the BRAIN 24-7!  Go ahead and click on this house…I swear it’s a pillowy soft QUILT!!

Hope you enjoyed the sights…no quilting for me…maybe tomorrow!

Have a super Saturday and Happy Quilting!~P

Quiltin’ Cousins

Staying at The Pismo Village RV Park does have it’s advantages…and no I’m not talking about staying RIGHT on the beach, which is WONDERFUL…I’m talking about being able to walk to the small town of Pismo Beach…and to Quiltin’ Cousins Quilt Shop!

Yup, just a 10 minute walk and I was inside this Quilt Shop..Quiltin’ Cousins…  P1220973

This is the front of the shop…long and narrow and the rooms go way back!

P1220974

The window display was gorgeous…baby quilts and doll quilts!  Very sweet!

P1220975

Adorable!

P1220976P1220977

The shop was packed with fabric and patterns…there was even WOOL…but at $23 for a Fat Quarter it was too much for this gal!

P1220978

I had fun looking but the only thing that came home with me was this copy of Quiltmania!

P1220997

I did a quick flip through and found this wool project that I really liked…

P1220999

And when I got back to the RV and really perused it I stopped at this project…it’s like a BOM in the magazine.  I normal get annoyed at this…it means you have to collect several magazines in sequence to get the whole pattern…which is difficult to do as not many shops carry Quiltmania!  Back home, I know of only ONE store that carries it!

It was the outside border that caught my eye!!  See the hills and houses…I want to move that mauve pillow for a better look!!

P1220998

EUREKA!!  This month has the pattern for THAT border in the pattern fold out!!  Can’t you picture a wool penny made out of this pattern of hills and houses?  OR a Christmas Village around a tree skirt?  OR you could put this border around ANY quilt…plain squares, snowball patches, log cabins…CAN YOU SEE WHERE I’M GOING WITH THIS?

P1230001

Yup…this is my kind of town!!  Maybe blue squares in the middle to represent water…with the the town going around…just like Pismo Beach!

P1230003

But alas…today we say good-bye to Pismo Beach and are off to Monterey, another seaside city!  This time our RV Park is nestled right up to the dunes and the beach!  You are going to love it!  Hope to see you there!!

Have a Fun Friday and Happy Quilting!~P

The Cotton Ball Quilt Shop…

The ‘Cotton Ball Quilt Shop’ is located on main street in stunning Morro Bay, a little North of Pismo Beach.  I have been here before and have always enjoyed a quick little tour while hubby keeps himself busy down at ‘The Rock’!P1220968

The staff really was friendly…honest!  And the shop was beautifully displayed….

P1220969

Lots of eye candy…but for the modern quilter…darn!

P1220970

Seems there is a new owner and so the shop has downsized a bit (no upstairs displays) and more of a modern flavour.

P1220971

There is still a wee small SALES ROOM in back and in it I found this framed small quilt which was listed for half price.  The sales lady said it was left over from the ‘old’ shop and she knew the owner would sell it for much less…she just didn’t know for how much less…and could I come back next week…so you guessed it.  There was no deal to be made!

P1220972

I ended up coming out with empty hands…which was just as well!  I wanted to prove to hubby that I really COULD go into a shop and come out without purchasing anything!!  :o)))

So off we went down the road, past the Hearst Castle, to the Sea Lion beach…. Hundreds of young sea lions come up out of the water and just lie there!  No they aren’t sick or dead…once or twice a year they do this…come up onto the beach to rest and molt.  They just lay there and once in awhile flip sand over themselves.  Quite a sight for sure!  They are shedding their fur(hair)…it’s natures way of providing them with a new and better coat!

We toured several small coastal towns before heading back to Pismo Beach where we, of course, walked the beach once again!  We had a wonderful day…until just before dinner the fog rolled in!  But even that was fun…we got to turn on our fireplace…yes, we were snug and warm in our house on wheels…

Hey…I can hear RAIN on the ROOF!!  It’s been awhile since I have heard THAT!!  LOVE that sound!  Now I am really getting homesick!! haha

Have a thrilling Thursday and Happy Quilting!~P
