I have yet to find a quilt shop/yarn shop/hobby shop that sells Valdani Perle Cotton here on Vancouver Island.... I am using it to big stitch quilt my 'Buds in a Basket' quilt so I need a boat load! SEW frustrating!!
I put the call out to my traveling friends to be on the look out for Valdani Perle Cotton...colour #5...which is a beige thread. They found nothing...although they all reported having fun looking:o)) (...hey...you got to keep your friends happy...right?! haha)
I was just about to place an on-line order when look what I spotted at the local thrift shop! Now, it's not Valdani, but it will certainly do in a pinch and it was calling MY NAME!
And LOOK at the price! Got to LOVE that! Eleven balls for $1.00...that's less than ten cents each!!
Anyway...I ran out of the Valdani last night, so I dug into this bag and started using the thread. It felt the same...pulled though nicely...and more importantly it looked the same...even this morning with the natural light on it! I could not tell where the Valdani left off and this thread started! Eureka! I am back in business!! I love it when I can 'make-do'! :o)) Do I dare say it?....Oh what the heck...
"SCORE!!"
I know...some things just never change!
Have a wicked Wednesday and Happy Quilting!~P

You find so much quilty type stuff at thrift stores and yard sales. Me......nothing!
ReplyDeleteI am just like Karen above. I have not ever gotten a bargain. Oh well, it is always fun to see you SCORE.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I had become such a snob over the last few years "I PREFER this thread" or "I'd RATHER use that fabric" or "these needles aren't RIGHT" - Ugh! I was even annoying myself :) I'm happy to say that I'm over it - now I just use what I have on hand and I'm always looking for a bargain. Hugs to you & congrats on the SCORE!!! Did you calculate how much $$ you saved?
ReplyDeleteI love your blog!! Beautiful work. Hugs mary
ReplyDeleteThat is a great Score! Have fun quilting with it. Way to Save some $$$
ReplyDeleteGlad you found a quick substitution, I e-mailed you before I read the whole post!
ReplyDeleteNice score! It's going to be finished in no time now! I can't wait to see all that big stitching on your sweet quilt!
ReplyDeleteYou did it again Paulette!! :)))
ReplyDeleteIt was meant to be.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!! Isn't it nice when you find the right thing at just the right time you need it... and for a steal! Happy Stitching!
ReplyDeleteWhen I see one of your posted titled "Scored". I know we're in for a story and a great find!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a score. It is frustrating not being able to find threads and such here on the island. I usually rely on online shopping, but when you've already started something, you want it now, not two weeks from now. You must have a fabulous thrift shop. There's a couple in Brentwood Bay that I think I'll have to have a look into. Maybe I'll be lucky like you.
ReplyDeleteYou are very lucky.......I look but find little.......score! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! I love deals like that! Valdini is my fave perle cotton. You must have found another good brand!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find. Valdani is a lovely thread to use, but I sometimes have supply issues too. To be honest, there are plenty of cheaper options that are still excellent quality especially for basic colours.
ReplyDeleteWhat a find! I love to find quilty stuff at good deals! Does it say any where on the spools what brand it is? I do most of my shopping on line, limited selection here!
