Who Needs a Ground Hog?...

I saw my shadow yesterday, so you KNOW what that means...6 more weeks of locking myself into my sewing room!  Yeehaw!
My Home for the Holidays blocks are like ground hogs...they have multiplied like crazy!!  Twelve blocks down, with only ONE more of these blocks to go... and then I can start putting this top together!

Not a great job by any means... but this Magic Sizing spray sure makes the fabric behave and lay flat... and makes everything LOOK so much straighter and crisper!  Kind of like Spanx for fabric!  Suck in all those bumps and lumps! ;o)) Sandy and I found this Magic Sizing at the Walmart in Palm Desert for only 99 cent a can!  We each bought three cans of it...in hindsight, we should have bought a truck load as we are both on our last can!  Yikes! I wonder if we can find it here in Canada?  Our fingers are crossed!


So the ground hog and I are doing a happy dance!  With any luck I can finish off the blocks, square them up and sew them together!

So...I have to hang out in this dump for 6 more weeks?...with the sound of THAT machine humming...and with fabric flying!  Geeze Louise, I need a raise...or at least ear plugs!  Can someone bring me a coffee?  

                               

I didn't make it to Heritage this week but never fear, members sent me pictures!

Check out Delores' I SPY quilt made for her grand-daughter, Poppy!

 Her wee Poppy is going to love looking for her and mommy's pictures, hidden among the other objects! Oh...I spy Grandma!!  And two Aunties!  A child can learn so much from an I SPY quilt...colours, numbers, recognition of people and objects...and later the sounds of letters, rhyming words, synonyms, opposites ...and the list goes on.  Language skills can be built and added to with each passing year.  Yup, every kid needs an I SPY QUILT!

Old Things Become New Again....

After you "Ohhh and Ahhh" my beautiful golden doodle grand-dog and appreciate my quilting- daughter's newest finish...a Winter Tree Quilt, check out her early birthday present...a gorgeous antique Sewing Table made in 1880!  She is just thrilled with it...

Erin said inside the table there are sewing notions from the 1880...so fun and different...like this pincushion and thread holder, hand carved out of ivory!

 So small and practical...and handy!  Something like this would be easy to make...except for the ivory part! (No animals are being hurt on this blog!)   A dowel, thread and top knot pincushion...done!  Something old is new again!

Does anyone know what these are?

                            

There were three of these spools in the table.  Erin said they are very small...and well worn...Does anyone 'out there in blogland' know what these are or what they are used for?

I love a good mystery...and I love old 'quilty' things!  Makes me wonder who owned this table before Erin....was she a quilter too?  Did she love to sew, crochet, embroider or knit?..Of course, I'm leaning strongly to her being a quilter... 

Erin is thrilled with her table, as she should be!  It is gorgeous!...She is hoping to put all of her hand-work threads and needles in this table, as later this month she is taking a Needle Turn Applique Workshop from Caroline Freidlander!  How lucky is she!!  She has also joined a 'Stitch and B****' group...meeting once a month in their homes, to enjoy some quilty talk and some hand stitching...just like they did in the 1880s!  Yup...somethings NEVER change!  Well.. maybe the name....:o)

February FIRST!

On Saturday I shot off my big mouth!  I declared that this month was going to be "Finish It Up February" with some BIG finishes happening!  It was time to get out those UFOs or even finish off some new projects....and I asked that question..." Care to join me?" ...Well, I'll be darned if I didn't get some takers!  'Just Judy' and Nancie from Nancie Anne Quilts Blog have taken up the Challenge!  Today is the THE DAY!  If you care to join in, you are more than welcome!  Every Friday in February we are going to post our February Finishes...however big or small!

I am going to continue to work on my 'Home For the Holidays' quilt top.  This project has been a UFO for over a year now!  I say this is the month to get 'er done!

So far I have almost half of these pesky little blocks done.  I can do it!  
Just Judy has a UFO that needs finishing...a round scalloped table mat!  And Nancie...well Nancie has her own wonderful blog!  Why don't you pop in on her and see what she is up to!

  February is a short month so we better make the most of it!  Pitter-patter-let's get at 'er!
