The Victoria Guild’s Quilt Show 2014…

Let’s have a look at one more booth before we stroll through the quilts…This is Hamel’s Fabrics booth!  They always have lovely things and at a great price!  Hamel’s has a shop in Chilliwack (outside Vancouver), plus they have a wonderful on-line shop…which you can visit HERE!

IMG_0899

TONS of great stuff here and something for ALL quilters…

IMG_0900

Hamel’s is always fun to poke around…and it’s always a miracle if you come away empty handed!!

IMG_0902

Ok…on with the show!  The Victoria Guild had TONS of modern and Art quilts entered in this years show.  This is just a small sprinkling…

IMG_0904

Oh…but before we get too far into the show the Sand’s Clubhouse Quilters will be happy to see who I bumped into!!  It’s Dorothy!!  She was a long time member of our Quilt group down south.  Sadly, Dorothy lost her husband a few years ago and no longer comes down to The Sands…BUT she is still busy quilting and as you can see…she looks WONDERFUL!

IMG_0905

SEW…on with the show…thought the quilting on this one was interesting…

Loved this one!!  What kid would NOT love this quilt?

IMG_0954

So if you love modern quilts or Art Quilts this is the show for YOU!  Be warned…there was not one wool quilt, penny or mat…:((  But we were pleased to see all the hand quilted quilts!  Hand quilting is alive and doing very well in Victoria!

If you would like to see more pictures of the Victoria Show then go to Kathy’s blog Quilting Along the Gorge.  She did an awesome job!

Have a terrific Tuesday and Happy Quilting!~P

Bathroom Break…

I’m interrupting the Victoria Quilt Show for a bathroom break!

I thought you’d like to see what has kept me out of the sewing room and into the bathroom for the last week or so…

Please disregard the arm around the door (;o) as it’s tough taking a photo when you have two walls of mirror and you don’t want to be in the pictures!!

It’s hard to make an old bathroom look new again…but we put up new lighting…new colours…new towel rack and curtains and knobs…a couple of new shelves…but the rest remains old…

IMG_0968IMG_0969

The cabinets were painted with three coats of Annie Sloans Old Ochre Chalk Paint and then two coats of clear wax and a final coat of half and half clear and dark wax.  LOVE THEM!!  The walls are painted with Rona “Natural Spring Water”…not blue but not green either…a definite mix of the two colours and it depends on the lighting to see blue or green!

Hubby built two shelves to go in this opening in the cabinets.  It was meant for a chair but I had a huge wicker basket here to hold toilet paper!  This is a much better use of the space!  The towels are mocha colour…NOT pink!  (I need to buy some blue/green towels for here to give it a punch of colour).

IMG_0970

Old fashion glass knobs on the cabinets….

IMG_0981

IMG_0971

Other area of bathroom…with more mocha (not pink) and blue towels and my old bottle collection.

IMG_0973

The colours of the shower curtain appear whiter than in real life.

IMG_0974

I have been collecting bottles for awhile…I love the old ones with bubbles and flaws…

IMG_0975

Here’s my 25 cent wire rack (bought at the Palm Spring’s Flea Market) and it’s been put to good use!!

IMG_0976

Another Thrift Shop find…

IMG_0977

Yowzers…there’s me in my Sunday sweats!!

IMG_0978IMG_0979

I put everything that I use daily in that little white glass tray…easy to get at…I can put it on the counter, then when I am finished I can slip it back onto the shelf!  Keeping everything tidy!

IMG_0980

And a final look at the cupboards…I DO LOVE them!!

IMG_0983

So my bathroom is still old but it’s now much fresher and brighter…and it was so worth the week…or so…of mess!

Hope you enjoyed your bathroom break!!  Now on with the Victoria Quilt Show…tomorrow!!

Have a magical Monday and Happy Quilting!~P

The Victoria Quilt Show 2014…

…was held this weekend!  Of course we went!  In fact we were practically the first in line…I wish I could tell you that we were anxious to see the gorgeous quilts on display…but you know me…it was all about the VENDORS!

We were interested in one vendor in particular…The THREADED NEEDLE!  We made a bee-line straight for Susan’s booth…I bet she was wondering what hit her!!

IMG_0872

Susan comes all the from Gibsons…a ferry ride away…and brings her lovely wares with her~ beautiful Japanese yard dyed fabrics…wools and threads, purse clasps and toggles and buttons galore…oh AND all of the latest Japanese Quilters’ quilting books!!

IMG_0873

Wouldn’t it be fun to take a sashiko stitchery class from her…

IMG_0874

IMG_0896

IMG_0875IMG_0876

But it was the Japanese stitchery projects that caught my eye….

IMG_0877

I can see a teacher loving this purse!  Coming home after the LAST class of the year and changing out her purse!!  Let those lazy days of Summer begin!

IMG_0878

Susan has tons of purses made up and all the patterns to make them yourself!

IMG_0884

Dang cute purses…

IMG_0886

Don’t you LOVE this one!

IMG_0893

Susan even had 3” yarn dyed hexies…40 per package for $11.95!!  A steal!

IMG_0894IMG_0895

And a huge table of yard dyed fabrics…in metre, half metre or FQ cuts!  Be still my heart!

IMG_0883

Linens, threads, toggles, buttons and clasps…oh and do-dads!

IMG_0885

Loved this thread catcher bag…

IMG_0897

…surrounded by bird houses!!  Sweet!

IMG_0898

BUT it was THIS quilt that stopped us in our tracks and made us get out our drooling bibs!!  It was stunning!!  My camera DOES NOT do it justice!

IMG_0879

Just LOOK at it…

IMG_0882

Magnificent!

IMG_0881

The pattern can be found in this Yoko Saito’s book, “Strolling Along Paths of Green”!

IMG_0887

WOW!!

IMG_0888

And we noticed more green hues added to Susan’s yarn dyed fabrics!  Hmmm…wonder why?:)

IMG_0889

Love the way Susan has added the special effects!

IMG_0890IMG_0891

Yup…we were liking this quilt…a lot!!

I hope you enjoyed A Threaded Needle as much as we did…and if you did, then check out her ON-LINE shop!  Her prices are GREAT…and she has EVERYTHING that you will need to make any of these projects…and then some!!  Plus this gal has all the latest Yoko Saito books!!  And check out THOSE hexies!!  You won’t be sorry…

There’s more to come tomorrow on the Victoria Quilt Show…we may even get around to the QUILTS! :O)

Have a SUNNY Sunday and Happy Stitching!~P
