DETOUR…..

Our plans quickly changed when we heard the weather forecast for the Siskiyou Pass was for SNOW- a foot and a half of the white stuff!  So we headed for the coast and it poured rain the whole way.  Lucky for us, we are use to rain!

We drove through lots of coastal towns…saw lots of tattoo parlours and kite shops but alas..no quilt shops!

It’s a good thing I sew while my husband drives as I would have nothing to blog about!  I’m surprised at all the comments from blogging friends who say that they get car sick from stitching in a moving vehicle.  I think the secret is to not look up very often…focus on your work not on the road and hang on for dear life!!

I have seven and a half more blocks to go so I can’t get car sickness now!

Here’s what I did yesterday~

One and a half blocks doesn’t sound like much but if you could have seen the road that we took you would have been AMAZED!  Hair pin turns, steep hills and torrential rainfall.  Granted it could have been worse…so mustn’t complain…much!

I know I have mentioned this “Baste It” glue before but I just have to say it again- I LOVE IT!  A little dab under each little appliqué piece and it sticks without pins…makes stitching so much easier!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  It’s been 10 year since the millennium!  Doesn’t it feel like a year or two…?  Is it just me or is life whizzing by faster than we took some of those corners yesterday?  Kind of scary –oh well nothing I can do about time….except maybe stitch a little more and a little faster and stop to enjoy a quilt shop….:o).  Now if I could just find one……with my luck I will see tons of shops in today’s travels and being New Years Day they will all be closed….

Have a fantastic day~ the first Friday of 2010!  And Happy Quilting!

  1. I am lovin' those blocks! I can sew in the car/truck if the road isn't too rough and if, like you, I keep my head down and my eyes on the fabric. blessings, marlene

  3. Happy New Year to you! Looks like you are making good progress on your road project. If you see interesting quilt shops today, you will just have to talk your DH into taking the same route back when you go home....hugs.lol

  4. I like to stitch in a car, that doesn't bother me either.
I will have to the glue, pins in a car, is not a fun way to sew.

  5. Hi Paulette,
I hope that you don't run into more bad weather.
I would not be very good at stitching in the car. I can't read either but I have knit on occasion. The motion makes me feel a little woozy, just thinking about it.
Hope you find a quilt shop soon. Your blocks are beautiful by the way.
Happy New Year and all the best in 2010.
    Warmest regards,

  6. You mean to say you didn't stop and get a tatoo? Talk about a one-track mind! You could even have got a tatoo of your favourite quilt block...or a snowman!!!

  7. Happy New Year! I think you've made great progress - especially considering the sound of those roads, I'd have one foot on my imaginary brake and both hands clasped pointing to heaven! I hope you have a wonderful year!

  8. Happy New Year.

    Wow! Love those blocks!

There is no way I can sew in the car.....especially with hair pin bends and steep turns!

    Travel safely.

  9. thanks for the glue tip, I am in love with this set of stitchery, Happy Travels. (i also like the tip about not looking!) it sounds quite hairy at times, Happy shop hunting too.

  10. Staples. I have friends who swear by staples to position their wool applique pieces. I haven't tried it yet though--I'm still using pins. But it sounds like a pretty good idea, especially for travel!

  11. Were you coming up the Oregon coast? There are 3 quilt shops in Florence and 2 in Newport. (that I know of)

  12. I am impressed that you are managing to keep up your applique while you are moving. Very good use of your time. I hope the rest of your journey is safe and uneventful, except for more blocks finished of course.
