Remember that old song “it never rains in California, but brother don’t they warn you, when it pours, man it pours”! Well man did it pour! My husband and I went for a drive and look what we had to contend with…
NO, we are not crossing a river…this is the main road in Hemet, California!! Incredible!!
Our little drive turned into quite the adventure…
Yes, it’s still raining! I think today is a stay at home, sewing day…unless our little trailer floats down the wash…
ON THE QUILTING FRONT~
The Fit to Frame #13 is FINISHED!! So that is the first OPAM Challenge finish for me….Whew!
I wish I could take these pictures outside so that the colours would look better…but I don’t want it to float away! I had quite a few bloggers wondering what kind of threads I used for this project. I ended up hand quilting it using Gutermann’s hand quilting thread. For the wool appliqué I used 2 stands of embroidery floss or a thin wool yarn that I bought at a yarn/ button shop in Victoria…the little red tulip was done with this wool yarn and it blended in so nicely! I don’t know the name of it…but it is thinner than tapestry yarn.
Also REMEMBER THIS QUILT?? It was my favourite from the Road to California…
Stunning, isn’t it?
If you go to Laura Peterson Quilts website you can find out all about the quilt and the artist who created it!! It is fascinating how Laura went about making this quilt..each little tiny quilt has a story behind it…just incredible!! And the people in the quilt…I see ME..see - I’m the one taking the picture! ;o) Thanks for sharing, Laura! Now hurry on over and learn more about what inspired Laura while making this quilt! Fascinating!
Have a thrilling Thursday and Happy Quilting!
First, your wool quilt is AMAZING!! I liked each individual block as you showed it to us, but all together - WOW! It's beautiful - really, really pretty! And I love seeing it as your header - yum!
ReplyDeleteSecond, THANK YOU for all the pictures from the Road to California! It was great to "go along" with you! You did a great job at showing us what the show looked like - thank you sweet pea!
Laurie
Love, love, love your wool quilt. Beautiful. :-)
ReplyDeleteOff to read about that incredible quilt.
Paulette,
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is gorgeous, I love it! I love the fabric you used for the outer borders, what is that? You did a beautiful job on the applique too, that is definitely a treasure.
I use guttermans too and floss on quilt appliques. For hand quilting on smaller prim pieces, I love aurifil lana wool thread.

Being from Southern California I lived that song! What's worse are the mudslides and flash flooding. Beautiful wool project.
ReplyDeleteThat's a LOT of rain!!! Your quilt is just stunning, Paulette, I can't believe you're finished already. Thanks for the link to Laura!
ReplyDeleteSorry, your link to Laura Peterson does not take you there. Thought you would want to know.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish for OPAM! The sashing and border looks great with your blocks. I've never worked with wool. Does it unravel like cotton does? Stay dry!
ReplyDeleteYou are a veritable machine Paulette. I can't believe you've completed the wool quilt - that's a year long project for most people...apparently just a drive to CA and a yard sale required for you!! It is really amazing. Is that blanket stitch attaching your binding, or a stripe in the binding fabric? So, what's up next, oh quilting queen?
ReplyDeleteCongratulation on your first OPAM finish. I really like this quilt. It looks great. Have a nice time.

ReplyDeleteYou quilt is absolutely GORGEOUS! And it looks fabulous as your new header!
Great job!
Hugs,

PS: As of Tuesday night we have gotten 4 1/2 inches of rain and it's still raining! Love it!
Your wool quilt is so beautiful. Good work. Stay dry!
ReplyDeleteWow You have finished the quilt, great for you.
ReplyDeleteHey! That's my home away from hometown! It never has rained like that when I stay there. Hope the truck dried out okay after driving trough that flood - have the wheels checked out. I can't believe the pants are now the finishing touch for your quilt - it looks fabulous. I LOVE it! The quilt show quilt you show here seems to be the hit of the show among other bloggers who were at convention. I have to say, this is a fun and most unique quilt design. Very creative!!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour wool applique quilt is lovely. The plaid pants really worked out beautifully as a great border for each block.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt turned out beautiful. You have me haunting the Goodwill for wool now. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sewer you are, just whipping up such a gorgeous quilt while travelling. It is stunning.
ReplyDeleteI love your little wool quilt! I need to get that pattern. I hope you stay high and dry. I saw on the news about the flooding. It looks awful.
ReplyDeleteLOVE, LOVE, LOVE your Fit to Frame finish Paulette! I just acquired six boxes of reclaimed wool and I would like this pattern to be my first project. You did an awesome job with color and texture.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your wool quilt - and those wool pants did the finishing trick! I've been buying up old wool coats, etc. and now need to start a project in wool. Keep dry!
ReplyDeleteYour wool quilt is really lovely! - The link works and I have spent about half an hour reading and looking at everything. Amazing!
