First Test Drive…

Yesterday I was up bright and early as this was the BIG day…to take my baby out for her first test ride!  Hubby helped me load the machine as she is one heavy brute and then we hooked her up!  There was the Cruise Control to figure out and all the other things to hook up and plug in before we were ready to fly!

I can see from the pics that the ‘quilt’ was a little loose and sloppy…:o0 !!  But it’s all good…we are learning and we have to start somewhere!

I found some muslin in my stash and following the video, loaded her on the frame.  Hubby had his camera ready for those ‘first baby step’!  I didn’t realize that he was taking a mini movie! I would have slowed down…and drove more cautiously! :o)  But there were no speeding tickets or crashes!

All in all, I had fun!  As you can see, I have A LOT more test driving to do and a lot more to learn!  There is much more to driving this thing than meets the eye!  So much to check and look out for (darn BLIND SPOTS!!) and so many things to go wrong!  BUT I can see that with one of these brutes you could quite easily bang off a quilt in no time…that is…once you know what you are doing and how to do it!  I know, I know …it all comes down to PRACTICE!

So PRACTICE I will!

Show and Tell from Glynis!

Isn’t it fortunate for YOU that I keep stumbling into quilters who love to share!!  Yesterday we had Sandy sharing her first ever pieced quilt (and a beauty it was!!) And today we have my new friend, Glynis sharing her wonderful wool penny and quilt!!  It’s a good thing too…because the cupboard is bare!!  In other words…there hasn’t been very much stitching going on around here lately!

You will probably remember Glynis from the Crawford’s Farm Quilt Show…She is the one who had this drop-dead gorgeous quilt hanging…Folk Art Bloom by Buggy Barn…LOVE IT!  It’s worthy of another peak…and a bit more drool (sorry about that!)

Everything about this quilt was spectacular!

And then there was Glynis’ Garden Gatherings…

AMAZING!!  NOW do you remember her? 

Well..just feast your eyes on Glynis’ latest wool penny mat…VERY pretty…happy and fresh!  This is a a Wooly Lady pattern.  If you haven’t been to the Wooly Lady’s online shop you really should…she has all sorts of lovely patterns and kits and of course wool!!  Her wool is pricey but beautifully hand dyed in gorgeous vibrant colours!

And here is another of Glynis’ show stopping quilts…a quilt that Glynis’ whipped up from a Ginny Beyer’s Free Pattern…it’s a BOM with each monthly block being a different flower!  I didn’t know that Ginny offered FREE patterns…so you might just want to peruse her website too!!  So much to look at and and see in Blogland…Geeze.. who needs to BUY patterns when you have such generous designers as Jinny giving them away!

A Quilter is BORN!

Do you remember Sandy from last winter…she was part of the Clubhouse quilters?  She had never quilted before…never made a quilt and didn’t know where to begin or end.  At first her sewing projects consisted of tops for herself and then little things for her grand baby…and while she sewed she watched the quilters.  Towards the end of the Snowbirding Season she showed up with a variety of flannels and announced that she would like to make a rag quilt similar to the one Karen had made earlier. 

Here are Sandy’s squares all sandwiched and ready to stitch!

    

By the time Sandy was stitching this together it was time for all Snowbirders to fly north for their second summer!

Well Sandy made two or three MORE rag quilters …and had begun to read blogs!  Oh OH!  Me thinks she was hooked! 

Sandy stumbled onto Pat Sloan’s Blog and heard about a Beginner’s Quilters Group…sponsored by Quilter’s Gallery!

              

Together they were forming a Beginner’s Quilt Along…and of course Sandy jumped right in!!  This was just what she needed!  They made one block per week…with step by step instructions!  (Would you believe that Sandy had to whip home while holidaying up-island for the instructions for the next block as she didn’t want to get behind!!)

I had lunch with Sandy yesterday and look at what she brought for Sharing!!  Her ‘Easy Peasy Summer Breezy Quilt’…all FINISHED and ready for quilting!

Sandy used her FREE Rounneries Deux Fabric! (We received Fat Quarters from each shop during the Spring Fling Quilt Shop Hop down in the Palm Springs area last March!)

Go ahead…expand those photos!!  The seams match and everything lines up!!  YEAH SANDY!!!  Magnificent!

YUP…we are talking to YOU!!  SUPER Quilter!!

This is the perfect project for the beginner quilter…With this one under Sandy’s belt she is ready to attack ANYTHING!! 

Yup…I HAVE to say it…A Quilter is BORN!!
