Cute As a Button!

Some people are just so lucky.  In this case, it’s my friend Delores.  She has got the sweetest grand-daughter, Kassidy- who just happened to want a ‘Belle’ dress.  So what does Delores do?  She whips one up - complete with little princess shoes,

gloves, bow and pin.  How adorable is this…..

What a lucky grandma!  I want one just like this!  (And I’m not talking about the dress….)  If you would like to make your grand-daughter/daughter a Belle dress it’s from McCall’s #M5494.  It’s a good thing!  Little Kassidy will be the Belle of the ball!  Well done, Grandma!

Now onto the quilting scene~

P1030001

I wanted to try some churn dash blocks as I had never made any before.  They are fun, easy and  look more complicated than they really are.  Think I’ll be making more of these blocks in the near future….

It’s a good thing~

Rainbows, lollipops and….Jenny of Elefantz… she has the cutest stitchery give away.  She has just released her latest stitcheries called In My Garden and she is giving one away!  It is the sweetest rainbow, complete with little buttons and flowers.  The other stitchery blocks are sold as a set and can be purchased at the Etsy store.

What’s with all the Australian quilters?  They are all so talented and lucky us, they are coming out with new patterns….sure hope they make their way to Canada!  Gail Pan has just released two gorgeous new patterns- a stitcheries pattern called ‘Bluebirds in Spring’ and an appliqué quilt pattern call ‘Love in the Mist’ - I LOVE them both!  Pop over to her blog and check them out…

AND would you believe,  Paula Storm from Sew Much Time, (yes, another Australian) is having a fantastic give-away- two patterns –an Annie Downs pattern (I love her!) and an adorable wool felt pin cushion!  hmmm…how to win both?  We all win!! – as she is giving away the first block in her new ‘Life’s a Hoot’ stitchery BOM – so hurry on over to download it.

Also check out JoJo’s blog if you want to see what might appear in your garden, if you live in Australia!  YIKES!

I better stop now as I think I have given you enough to keep you busy while you drink your morning coffee….or your afternoon tea….or your evening hot chocolate…..what a nice way to spend a few minutes!

Have a super Sunday and Happy Quilting!

It’s a go go for Yo Yo!

When I was young I would play with my YoYo for hours and must admit I was pretty good at it.  Now that I am ‘older’ I am still playing with yo yo’s…..only a different kind.  It is also one of the things that Natasha shared at Club on Tuesday.  I love those little fabric circles- if you use the Clover gizmo they are fast and easy and very cute. And they come in different sizes, too!   And no I don’t own the company and no I am not getting anything free from Clove…unless of course they see this and decide to send me a new thimble, pencil, pins….whatever!

Just follow the simple directions and it is a snap.  If I was still teaching, I would get my grade one children whipping these up-they are that easy!  (To the Clover staff - just send the merchandise to the following address…..)

This is how I used them, as centers to flowers.

Natasha showed us how to wrap the finished yoyo with the thread 4-5 times to make petals on a flower.  Cute and simple!  You just take the thread through the middle and wrap it around pulling tight and wrap again further down the circle. Keep doing it until you have formed the flower.  Adorable. P1020845 P1020846

Here are are two ways to use yoyo in a festive fashion.

P1020848

The last thing I would like to show you is this wonderful yoyo quilt that one of the ladies brought in for sharing.  It is over 50 years old and was made by her aunt….done before they had handy little yoyo gizmos….

Look at the fabrics and the workmanship –it’s a good thing!

ONE MORE GOOD THING- GIVE-AWAY SPOTTED!!

Look at what Natalie Ross is giving away – three patterns for this very cute folder cover and caddy.   Very sweet!        !

Let’s do the Math….if she is  giving 3 patterns away that means one for me, one for you and one for another blogging friend (after all we quilters like to share! :o)   Sounds fair to me!)  Natalie has a beautiful blog filled with all kinds of eye candy.  If you haven’t visited her blog now’s the time….tell her Paulette sent you!

Have a super Saturday and Happy Quilting!

Fun Friday…..

I just read Kim’s post and got a real chuckle….she always makes me laugh.  She was talking about beauty products and how you just can’t go in and buy just a plain toothbrush or plain toothpaste, etc.

Well let me tell you it’s not just beauty products that are new and improved and gimmicky!  Let me tell you what happened to me the other day….I went in to get a new cell phone (mine died a sudden death after many years of use).  The ‘boy’ behind the counter asked what ‘features’ I wanted…..so I said I want one with a BIG screen, BIG print and BIG buttons (for my man hands-he was impressed when I held them up!)  I don’t want one that takes pictures, videos or texts….he looked at me like I said I wanted a cell that could call Mars….Apparently there is no such thing as a simple cell phone….WHAT? He proceeded to show me the ‘top’ of the line….I said it was too gimmicky…he had never heard of such a thing….So what did I end up with….? Why this cute, LITTLE phone, with a LITTLE screen and NO buttons but this sleek little pad that I have a heck of a time punching numbers into…..BUT  I can text, take pictures and videos and Mom is now cool, hip and happen! So what if it takes me half an hour to place a call….!   Oh, I hear you Kim…..

WHAT’S NEW ON THE QUILTING FRONT?….

Not that much as I have been too busy trying to program my new  phone…..!

Today, after I clean my house (ugh…I hate Fridays!!) I am going to machine quilt this little quilt.  I have finished the borders and it is ready to go….

P1020959

I really like the little green border- it pops the green centers in the daisies.

P1020942Rylie, my little quilting buddy (see the thread in her mouth….) seems to like this quilt top, too!P1020948  She seems to like it a little TOO much…..oh, oh, a porn star is born!

P1020952

“Please mom, please make this one for ME!”

P1020954

“We’ll see….”  (This is what my mom always said to me when she meant “NO!”

AND hopefully the last little blue bird will get some legs and a beak.

P1020963 P1020960 P1020961

Then I can put on a border and I am thinking I might hand quilt this little number.  Rylie…..no the birds are not real!  Noooo, Rylie, noooooooo…..

Have a fun  Friday and Happy Quilting~
