Sew and Tell…..

At Hand Quilting yesterday, two finished quilts came off the quilting frames and two new ones went on!  Cheers all round!  Every time a quilt goes on and comes off a quilting frame it is written down in the Quilting Book with the name of the quilt, who made the quilt and the dates.  This book goes back many, many years…some of these ladies have been quilting together for over 30 years! 

Does this quilt look familiar?

Yes, it’s the @*%# snowball quilt!!  It’s one of the ‘new’ ones to be put on a frame.  Signey is helping me baste all the edges so that we can get started.

I must Sew and Tell the ones that came off.  The first one is a baby quilt that I just LOVE.  It was made by the nicest lady, Linda,who has been quilting for years.  She made the dogs out of a soft plush minky fabric (without the dots).  Adorable….

Just too cute! Can you see how all the dogs’ ears are 3 D – they are flaps of a darker minky fabric.  This is my favourite dog, sleeping while another dog uses him for a stepping stone.

A close up of the stitching…beautiful isn’t it?  Linda wanted balls stitched in each square.  Very sweet!

Carol made this quilt for her grand-daughter, Brianna.  She did a wonderful job and it’s perfect for a little girl.

I really like the way Carol put the little block border just going around each corner.  A very pretty way to use up any left over blocks…

 

Finally Marge brought in a quilt that she finished this week.  Marge has been making quilts since she was 11 years old…just a few years.

I love this wonky log cabin quilt.  Marge said every piece of fabric came from her scrap bag.  You got to love that!  After we hand quilt it, this quilt will be going to Marge’s daughter for a gift.  Lucky daughter!

  

Now you know why I love Wednesdays-I get to hang with some VERY talented and nice ladies.  AND there is always homemade goodies at coffee break and for dessert at lunch.  And I wonder why my thighs are rubbing together…..hmmm ….maybe I should lay off the sweets…..NOT!

Are we having fun yet?

Yesterday was one of those days when not much quilting got done…. Mikayla (my grand-daughter) and I went blackberry picking just down the road from here.  We came home and decided to turn the berries into pies.  We had fun or at least I think we had fun.  It’s really hard to entertain this generation as all they want to do is play computer games, Facebook or watch TV or videos.  OMG –did I just say that!?….I sound so….so….old!  Anyways, we had ‘fun’ as we proceeded to turn the blackberries into pies.  I am far from being a Julia Child but I must admit they were pretty tasty pies. Wish I could send a slice your way….

See…I look like I’m having fun….

If there was a think bubble coming out of Mikayla’s head it would say….”Get me out of here! I’d rather be on Facebook...”

Yes, I confess….it’s frozen pie crust!   Passing my culinary skills on to the next generation….YIKES!  What would Julia think?

Now don’t they look yummy!  I ate my slice with vanilla ice cream….yum!  Mikayla ate only the ice cream….she doesn’t like blackberries….Apparently, Blackberries are for talking and texting on!  I tell you, this generation……

This morning I am off to Hand-Quilting where we know how to have fun…the old-fashion way!

Next NEW project…..

The Challenge is over…..I can start something NEW!!  Hmmmm…..should I start a quilt?  Or do something in wool felt….I bought all these wool felt patterns at the Road to California last January….they have been calling my name ever since.  This year, before we leave for Palm Springs, I am going to cut out at least 3 or 4 projects and baste them together as they make wonderful travel hand sewing projects.  I also want to make a stitchery quilt and have bought some muslin for that…oh yeah… I  have all this roving in the cupboard waiting to do a felting project not to mention all that vintage lace….. OH and I want to make a string quilt and after that I want to make a hexagon or spider web string quilt….AND I bought all this civil war fabric called Harmony that is gorgeous.  I want to do stars on a beige/brown background…..so many projects….so little time…oh yeah, I’m retired!  I’ve got more time than money! (Ain’t that the truth!)  Eenie meenie miny moe….it’s settled, I’m making a …..

….MESS!

 

With every mess comes a …string quilt!  I decided that I need to be practical.  I have three grown daughters and all of their friends are all starting to have babies so I want to have a stock pile of baby quilts.  Nothing is worse than having to shelve a project because you have to whip up a baby quilt.  If I have 5 or 6 baby quilts on hand it won’t be a problem- SO I say -  come on girls, bring’em on!

Jan is my sewing machine’s name…) Jan knows me….oh well…it’s only Tuesday… here’s hoping my jokes will get better…(Janome is my machine…now do you get it….?)
