Road to California…Part One…

Whew! The 2010 Road to California Quilt Show DID NOT disappoint!!  The quilts were spectacular and the vendors blew my socks off!!  It was everything I remembered it to be except maybe even better!!  I think it was because last year I wandered around in shell shock…mouth open and eyes glazed.  This year my mouth was still open and the eyes were glazed but my feet moved- BOY DID THEY MOVE!!  The sandals were smokin’!

One of the first things I noticed was all the signs saying “Do Not Take Photos”!!  DRATS!!  Maybe these signs were up last year but in my glazed stupor I just didn’t notice!  I didn’t take nearly as many booth pictures as I would have liked… as I have to respect the vendors wishes…

Having said that, I did take a ‘few’ shots BEFORE I saw the signs…;o)

We got there early, just before the crowds got heavy…however within a half hour you couldn’t move through the aisle ways and each booth was packed…the Quilting economy is alive and kicking!!

Yes, Eleanor and I did coffee again this year. ;o) She really is a sweetheart!  I can’t imagine chit chatting to strangers ALL DAY LONG…I went back to her booth- SIX HOURS later - as I forgot that I wanted to buy a special Triangle Square Up Ruler. There she was still chipper, signing books and bags and telling everyone that it was her son’s birthday…she made me tired just listening to her…

I loved this booth…and it was nice and open…some of the booths where too cramped and it was hard to move.  I also love their shop, The Calico Horse in Redlands, California.   P1050322 P1050323

Do you see now why your eyes glaze over…so much eye candy!!

This booth was all blue…

If you bought the pattern then the vendors allowed you to take pictures… P1050333 P1050334

I wonder what I bought??

I loved this booth and they said I could take pictures…everything was beautifully displayed and reasonably priced… It was called Wooden Spool Designs.  LOVED IT!!P1050337 P1050338

All these pictures were compliments of the Wooden Spool.

As you can see the booths were spectacular and the crowds were heavy (understatement!!) but that was alright… I am after all a SEASONED shopper!

Tomorrow I will share a few more booths pictures thanks to the vendors who let me take the pictures.  And I might just share a few snaps of what I bought!!!

The OPAM (One Project A Month) Challenge~

Yikes, it’s the 17th…and I haven’t finished ANYTHING…and the OPAM Challenge is hanging over my head….!!!  I’ve got to get busy!!  I didn’t know quilting could be so stressful! :o0 AND I have a truck full of laundry!!  I moved it into the truck because it became a mountain and we couldn’t move in the trailer.  All I can say is that it’s a good thing K-Mart is nearby so that my husband could get some clean undies!  Do you think if I did the laundry that could be counted as this months Project ?  Yeah…I didn’t think so….

Have a super (sudsy) Sunday and Happy Quilting!!

  9. Thank you so much for the tour of the show--I have never been to that show and may not get there from CT, so it was great to go through your eyes! I can't wait to see what you bought! I will be going to the New Jersey quilt show on March 6--can't wait; although I don't think it is as big as the one you attended!

  14. I wish I could have toured Road with you when I went ~ you would want to hit the same booths and I just know I would not have missed any of the best things to see. Eleanor is a dear and champion greeter, lol, apparently she doesn't mind all the gushing and hugs and whatnot that goes on there each year. I have a fun photo of me meeting her. Glad you enjoyed your big day ou!

  15. I don't know how I found your story but I follow it daily. Your life is blessed but I am sure you have worked hard to get to this stage. Here in Melbourne Australia we have some lovely shows but nothing of the scale that your blog suggests. Your enthusiasm and energy is contagious. Thanks for sharing
