Yesterday the UPS man dropped off a parcel from my quilting daughter and her BF!! I took off the brown wrapper to reveal this gorgeous box…all sparkly and very foxy!
I thought that I had better not open it until I heard from my daughter, so I sent her an email. I knew that she would still be at work so I left the box on the couch…and waited…I was in the bedroom putting the laundry away when I heard hubby enter the RV…he wasn’t in the living room for more two seconds before he said, “WOW, what a beautiful Quilt!”
WOW…is right!!
OMGosh…this is Erin’s FIRST QUILT…well second if you consider the rag quilt being her first!!
This is not an easy quilt to make!! More like an intermediate level quilt for sure! This from a girl who had NO INTEREST what-so-ever in sewing…NEVER touched a sewing machine!! Didn’t know how to thread a needle or sew on a button…and had no interest in learning!! WOW!! Seriously… I almost fell over!!
The pattern is one she found at the Fat Quarter Shop called ‘Hamptons’ by It’s Sew Emma…and the fabric is Winter Reds…LOVE IT!!
And check out her FIRST free motion quilting!! It’s a vine with leaves in the border and straight line quilting 1/4” from the seams!! Incredible!!
Ohhhh and did you see the BIG stitch HAND quilting around the edge? PERFECT!! AND she said she ENJOYED the stitching and would like to do more of it…I am amazed…almost speechless!!…do you think it’s in her genes??
Am I GUSHING?…please don’t slap me!! It’s just that I LOVE THIS QUILT!! Truly a gift of love…received with love!! Thanks SEW much, Erin!! I will treasure this quilt FOREVER!!
Just WAIT until I show you what she is making for herself…but I will save that for tomorrow…I need to savour the moment!!
Ok, OK…now you can slap me!!
Thanks, I needed that!!:o}}} P
How exciting!! Not just that your daughter has become a quilter, but that one of her very first projects she gifted to you. Truly a gift of love.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful !! You are right, it must be in the genes...she is a natural!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I forgot to say what a beautiful quilt it is. Lovely pattern, beautiful fabrics and well made. I especially love that big stitch quilting around the edge of the border. She obviously has the creative gift!
ReplyDeleteShe seems to have a natural talent. Some of you rubbed off on her somewhere along the line. A beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteWow! Inspiring! How many tears of love, pride and breathtaking surprise did you shed Mama? If one of my girls were ever to pick up a needle and then actually gift their first masterpiece to me I would likely be in a heap on the floor in a puddle of them!
ReplyDeleteWOW took my breath away. How lucky for you. You must be so very proud of her. I won't slap you because you deserve to be so proud.
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing first quilt and its all done! I don't even think my daughter knows where a quilt shop is or what it is..... Its beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh Paulette, what an amazing quilt she has made you! I too can appreciate her talent - kinda uncanny that she can naturally be so skilled, like she is meant to do this and how much fun it will be to watch what she does with it! Also as a quilter it is an honor to receive a quilt on several layers ( little pun). Merry ho ho and safe and happy journey south
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! I would be a proud Mama too...

You could never have waited until Chrismas to open that gift! I can feel your surprise. Just fabulous! Quilters love to receive quilts as gifts, especially from their daughters!
ReplyDeleteDon't you love Midwinter Reds?! I have a two-charm pack set of disappearing four-patch blocks finished and ready to put together when I can decide on the setting, but that won't happen until after Christmas. Enjoy you gift!
A very gorgeous quilt Paulette. The pieceing, quilting...everything is exquisite.

What a lovely, and thoughtful gift! We quilters know the work that a quilt entails - a gift of love. Great job; you have another quilter in the family!
ReplyDeleteWhat a labor of love! The colors she used are gorgeous with that pattern. You have a very special daughter to gift you with such a perfect Christmas surprise!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is a "natural". That quilt is quite an accomplishment for a newbie. Obviously she has been paying close attention to her mother's work. I'll bet she can do ANYTHING that she sets her mind to. What a talented woman!!!! You deserve to be so very proud.
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful surprise. The quilt is beautiful. What a proud mom you must be.
ReplyDeleteVery special. Perhaps she learned how to quilt from watching you? Reading your blog? Ok perhaps it was Youtube?! However she aquired them, her skills are impressive for a beginner!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful surprise. You will treasure it forever. She did a fantastic job for a new quilter. I think she is hooked. I'm giving up hope of my 2 daughters of ever quilting, but my step daughter has a interest in leaning more.
ReplyDeleteI love my son but I'm pretty sure he'll never take up quilting. How wonderful for you to be able to share this passion with your daughter and for her to give back as well. Maybe I will add a sewing D-I-L to my Christmas wish list. I actually have tears for you both.
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely, I am sure you will treasure it.. So happy for you,,

ReplyDeleteOMG ... her first quilt!! What a wonderful job she did on it.
ReplyDeleteThat is stunning P, I know you are a very proud Mom right now and you should be. You'll always have a quilt shop companion now whenever she visits.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's pretty obvious that talent runs in the family! I can't believe she did that as her first quilt. Very impressive. Mine was your typical nine patch! Overachiever to say the least. good job Erin!
