I must be getting old and crotchety! I really wasn’t impressed with this years’ garage sale held at the local Quilt Shop…I won’t bore you with the details but let’s just say it wasn’t fun…and Garage Sales are suppose to be all about having FUN…and getting deals…and there weren’t too many of those either!
I dragged Kim out of bed at the crack of dawn…picked her up at 7:15am…got to the shop at 7:45…and we got in line…Here’s the line-up…
Yup…we were the line! And here are the tables…looks like a funeral doesn’t it! The GS didn’t start until 8am…so we shivered and shook til 8…(3C…it’s cold here on the desert first thing in the morning!) By 8 there was a small group of us all huddled together for warmth…group hug everyone? The owner counted down the SECONDS on her iPhone for the sale to begin! If my hands weren’t so stiff and frozen I would have done something to that phone and it wouldn’t have anything to do with quilting! Oh..SHE was having fun…the rest of us, not so much!
Looks like bodies doesn’t it? I don’t know what all the secrecy was about…it was either something REALLY good or something REALLY bad!
I didn’t take any pics of the actual feeding frenzy as the fingers couldn’t unfold to get any snaps…but I will show you what I bought.
I went to last years’ sale and the prices were way better…I know…the price of fabric has gone up…yadayada…! All bundles last year were $6-10…this year they were all over $10…this little bundle was $13.51…what’s with the penny?…why not round up or down? Told you…feeling crotchety!! But I mean really…a penny!!
I forgot about the bundles…just not a great deal and focused on the Remnant bags…they were $6 to 10 a bag…got two of those…one for $6…
And one for $8…
I also bought this UFO…YUP…just what I need, someone else’s unfinished project…but it was only $10…the only DEAL to be had!
It’s small and will make a cute table topper…and I love the Japanese fabrics!
Ohhh…and the good part! The owner of the Fabric Store was sweet enough to prepare goodie bags for EVERYONE who attended the GS…with a slight catch…you had to wait till 10am to receive it!! Yup, you heard me…wait around in the cold to receive the nicely wrapped wee ruler and chap stick…which you would need after licking your lips so often to keep the frost off!! OR I guess you could kill the almost TWO HOURS shopping in her store? Do you get where I’m going here…?
All in all…we should have stayed in our nice warm beds!! Yup, I’m getting OLD and crotchety!! Crotchety P just doesn’t have the same ring to it as Sweet P…dang!
Have a SUNNY Sunday and Happy Quilting!~P
PS…Don’t forget to enter yesterday’s GIVE AWAY!! You might just WIN!!
Oh I would have been so crotchety, too!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Paulette...we've been around this block enough to know when we're getting a deal or not. I love deal shopping; but not getting taken....lol...Love the UFO though.
ReplyDeleteYou may have been crotchety, but you definitely made me smile today!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain!! Better luck next time. I agree, the UFO table topper is a winner.
ReplyDeleteWhat are your plans for the UFO?
ReplyDeleteAs I'm reading this, I'm giggling.
ReplyDeleteSorry you didn't have a better time, I'd be unhappy also. I live in NY on the eastern part of Long Island, there's never any really good GS with fabric. ;->
ReplyDeleteI hear you about the penny...really?? Frustrating!
ReplyDeleteYep, it was cold. Yep it was early. Yep, the store owner is all about the pennies and not the customer. Yep, the deals to be had were not there.
ReplyDeleteThe best part??? An early morning road trip, quilt shop, coffee time and fun with a friend!!! Thanks Paulette!!!!!!!Yucca here we come on Tuesday!
hmmm..I was snuggled in my nice warm bed, with a soft cozy pillow.... LOVE the UFO though.
ReplyDeleteNice sale to go to, wish I could find ones like that. I did get mail from a store in Mass. It said they had wool for 2 dollars a yard, so need to take a trip up there and see what they have.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
LOL...oh Paulette....yes, my dear, you must be getting old! Sounds like a crappy sale and low down sales tactics...you're lucky though you only had to wait until 10...at my LQS's open house for new classes , you had to wait until 3 pm to get the goody bag and they started at 10 am! I didn't go :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds pretty lame! After you had been in line and made purchases she was going to make you wait until 10?! That's insane and bad business!
ReplyDeleteLove your little UFO.
I am hysterically laughing! I'm sure it wasn't funny actually being there and freezing, but your telling of it just cracked me up!! And I agree - what's with the penny? Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteYou make me LOL, too. It's ok to be crochety - you're earned that right. :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry, I feel compelled to comment on this. A gift bag two hours after the sale started? My grandmother, mom, and dad ran a fabric store and upholstery business for years. Their motto, make the customer happy!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you really didn't get up early to freeze
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was only a very bad dream.
What a let down.
I know you won't let that detour you from your main reason for that long trip down.
Let the Sewing Party Begin ! ! ! !
hugs
The table topper was a good deal, your patience paid off. Not sure I would of hung around for the goodie bag.
ReplyDeletelol, it does look like a funeral.
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing. But you must admit that you went to some fabulous yard sales last year.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the sale was a bust!! Sounds like the shop owner had all kinds of grand schemes for making lots of money and got unhappy shoppers instead. Sometimes greed turns on you, you know???
ReplyDeleteThose kinds of GS are the ones that turn me off garage saling espeically when I go to several in a row like that. But the good ones are usually enough to make me get out and look again. Hope your next sale is a winner!
ReplyDeleteWell poo!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you SweetP. If you advertise a "garage sale" remember what the definition is for that. I think the shop owner should just advertise a sale in the future. They really missed the boat. This one time GS should be their chance to reward their customers. If customers are happy, they will come back again and again (spending much more in the shop throughout the year on regular priced items).
ReplyDeleteROFLOL, Not at you just at your writing, such a vivid story I could almost see the air while breathing in and out in the cold...for chap stick! I guess the economy has hit even the GS. I do love the little topper you got!
ReplyDeleteOh, Paulette, the world is just not the same happy place that it used to be. If it weren't for you and maybe me, there would be nothing to laugh about. (Not that I would laugh about you, or you would laugh about me, but you know what I mean!!) Speaking of mean...making you stand out there in the cold, now that was mean! There will be more and better opportunities coming this year! I just feel it...so you can rely on it, I've got pretty good "feelers" most of the time. Go soak yourself in the pool and warm up!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you sound just like my crew did when we waited for two hours outside the mall on Thanksgiving night to be one of the lucky ones to win a special prize. We were so disappointed! LOL. We all decided we are staying in bed next year! Glad you found a few bargains to enjoy! That makes it worth the trouble a bit more!
ReplyDeleteUgh! I would have been completely irritated on all counts, too!
ReplyDeleteI do love the table topper, and it looks like a lot of the work is already done, so at least you found that deal :)
The table topper may have been the best part of the day. No...spending time laughing with a friend is the best!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm just having the best time laughing as I read this. (I don't mean that in a mean way - It's just so funny the way you tell it.)
