It’s a Miracle Product!!

So yesterday I cut into these sweet little bundles.  JoAnn (JAM) from Country Loft emailed and said they are called Diamond Textiles…and you know what they say about Diamonds…Diamonds are a girls best friend!!

So this is what I did with my diamonds (and other stash fabric)~ Yup, cut them into 2 inch squares!

Now I want to share with you a MIRACLE PRODUCT!!  Hallelujah! Most of you have probably already discovered and used this product but if you haven’t you are in for a treat!  It’s called QUILTER’S GRID which is a Pellon product!!  It has a grid printed on one side and on the other side it is bumpy.  Because it is so shear you can see the grid on the bumpy side too.(the bumpy side is the glue side which will become sticky when you iron it).

P1080207

So you lay out your pellon grid…and place your 2 inch squares within the grid on top of the bumpy side

P1080217

Do you see the grid is in 1 inch increments  so you line them up using a 2 inch grid.

P1080218

Iron as you go being careful not to touch the pellon with your hot iron…you will have it stick to your iron so I just tap each square to stick at first.

P1080219

..Until you have ironed all your squares down.  In my case I am using 17 X 13 squares per row.  Now I can go over it with the iron without fear of touching the pellon.  I tap with the iron, I don’t move the iron across.

P1080226

Now I am ready to sew.  So I fold it down the middle and it folds naturally between a row of squares.  I finger press it~

P1080227

Take it to the machine and sew 1/4 inch down the fold.  (Notice NO pins…No checking to see if the squares are all lined up…Loving this!!)

P1080228

Keep folding and sewing until you have all the rows done going one way…

P1080231

This is what the front looks like~

P1080232

Now you are going to clip very carefully between each square up to the stitching line.    I gently pressed each row in alternate directions~ This is so you can avoid the bulk when you sew the other way.

P1080233

Now fold the runner the other way making sure your rows are going in alternate directions.  And stitch…

P1080235

This is as far as I got…Three rows done…BUT…Look at how perfect the matching is!!  I did NOT use one pin…I did not even think of matching seams!!  You KNOW what a pain sewing and matching 2 inch squares is like!!  And if you are using a loose weave fabric like  Diamond Textiles, you know how easy it is to stretch out of shape…NONE of that!  This method is FAST, EASY and PRECISE!  (I did this in less than 2 hours while watching TV!) The only down side to using the pellon is, it does add a little extra weight to the runner…but I can live with that.

                  P1080236

So while while I keep sewing… can you guess what I am making…?

It’s Button Town USA…minus the buttons!! ;o)

  4. Lovely project you have on the go there! Look forward to seeing it progress!

Interesting, don't think I've seen that pellon here... I'll have a look next time I pop into the shop - looks great for stabilizing some of those fabrics that unravel easily, and great for lining up squares :o)

  8. Nice and easy! I have seen this used for a "quilt painting" to make a heart or wreath of tiny squares. I remember the town quilt from your trip to the South.
