Snow drifts or sand dunes?
Yup, it’s sand alright…what a fun day!! We played in the sand yesterday…it was weird because it looked like snow but felt like sand and it was 86F! Loved it!
This place is amazing! It’s called White Sands, New Mexico and it is gorgeous!! Would you believe that in 1945 the government tested the first Atomic Bomb…right in the middle of this incredibly beautiful park! Why would they do this? With miles and miles of ugly, brown rough desert to choose from, why would they pick this wonderful place with the brilliant white sand dunes! Boggles my mind!!
If you click on this picture you can see the drifts…all of our pictures are just white…you don’t see the drifts and dunes…
Even Rylie and Mollie loved this place!
I wasn’t going to include this picture…but I accidently sent it to Maggey (Quilting Couple) instead of my daughter, Maggie. This is my version of getting lost in the desert…you know…WATER….WATER…GIVE ME WATER…. I sometimes send my daughters a ‘silly’ picture of me just to let them know that the ol’girl still has it! Sorry about that Maggey…just be thankful I have my clothes on in this one!! ha ha
My husband says the caption should be…Quilt Shop…Quilt Shop…I need a Quilt Shop…
Besides dying of thirst…lots of stitching has been happening as we drive across New Mexico. Show and Tell time tomorrow! Oh what the heck…here’s a sneak peek….
After all, I don’t want the last image that you see to be me begging for WATER…WATER…
Have a water filled Wednesday and Happy Quilting!
Love all the sand! And love the sneak peek of Annie too! I've got to get my hands on that book! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour husband has a good sense of humour as do you. The pics are amazing. What a contrast - the white sand against the blue, blue sky. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures, really funny!!!

Loved your pictures of the desert. I've never been to New Mexico, but it looks like an interesting place to visit. Your wool crazy looks good, I hope to get back to mine soon.
ReplyDeleteWe all have to let out the kid in us;)
ReplyDeleteNeat to see all that white sand.
Debbie
The sand makes you look like you are falling from a sky that is white. If the shoes weren't in it. I had do a double take to make sure you weren't falling. Too funny, I feel that way after I haven't been in a 'good fabric' store in a while. Drag me out of the store, before I buy everything!
ReplyDeletePaulette I love it, fantastic and beautiful photos. Thank you for sharing, go out and play more!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see that piece of work!
Obviously your hubby knows you best! That place looks incredibly cool. No only did I get all the amazing quilt shop tours, now you're on a geologists dream vacation now! Love it! Thanks for saving me a ton of cash by sharing it all for free!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a drama queen you are! I think you found this year's Christmas card picture!!
ReplyDeleteFunny you should make the comparison of snow and sand- they do have lots of similarities- the dunes are like snow drifts and you can leave prints and trails just like snow. The sand sticks on the dogs just like snow would.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I would like to swim in either one but it sure is a fun picture of you trying- Loved your husband's caption.
Thanks for sharing your sandy adventure.
Regards,
Anna
Your photos have made my DAY! I laughed at the dogs, but you looked so parched...great caption...too too funny. The sand does indeed look like snow. The dogs must have had a ball...
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome world we live in...including some of the people in it. *wink*
ReplyDeleteI think it is time to retire! You guys are having a lot more fun than Gene and I going to work each day...:)
ReplyDeleteI live very near White Sands National Monument and it is quite wonderful. But, it's not where the first atomic bomb was exploded. That was at Trinity Site, about 60 miles as the crow flies from WSNM. The whole area is called White Sands, but only the Nat'l Monument is made up of the white sand (gypson), The area where the explosion took place is out in the scrub brush area. The site is open twice a year for visitors.
ReplyDeleteYes I think you are saying: quilt shop, quilt shop.
