Garage Sales vs. De-Cluttering…

I KNOW exactly what you’re thinking…Yup, she de-clutters all week, only to go Garage Saling on Saturday!  What can I tell you…I’m weak…it’s a sickness!

I REALLY wasn’t going to go…REALLY I WASN’T…I was going to be strong!  But then we DID need groceries and I DID need more spray paint, so it was off to town for me…at 8am…I told hubby I wanted an early start so that I could get cracking on painting those baseboards… “Uhhh huh” was all he said…I think HE KNOWS!…Then there were all those signs luring me in…the car was like a magnet!  Well…you get the drift!

SEW what crap did she get this week, you ask?

Wellllllll…just look at these lovely bowls…I know…I know I need more bowls like another hole in the head BUT just LOOK at them…not a nick, not a crack…and all were $1…that’s 33 cents EACH!  HOW was it humanly possible to walk away from a deal like THAT??  And so pretty…and yes I will toss out three old bowls to replace them with these beauties!!P1190030

This find I didn’t feel as bad about purchasing…after all it goes outside…it’s the big tall, weathered birdhouse…

..there was NO WAY I was leaving this baby behind!!  And it loves it’s new home!  P1190018

These next two ‘finds’ were for the new green room…and that room is bare so I was justified in buying them…right?

Love the metal leaves wall hanging..perfect for a green room!  ($2) and this decorative plate…I know..more junk…read your mind, didn’t I…

P1190024

But just get a closer look at it….

P1190025

It’s hand painted…and it’s a robin!  It HAD to come home with me!  So yes, I will throw away an old plate with a robin on it, so that I can replace it with this one! :o) (did you notice the eyes rolling) ($3..and no nicks or cracks and it came with the stand!!)

P1190026

YES, the base boards got painted…so it was ALL good!!

P1190027

And what’s up with Saling…computer says it’s misspelled…but it doesn’t like Saleing either!!  It can’t possibly be Sailing because you aren’t SAILING, you’re looking for Sales…so I’m going with Saling…after all the RULE IS- drop the ‘e’ before adding ‘ing’!  Sure doesn’t LOOK right…but then neither does Saleing…All I know is, I sure had fun today…and I ONLY came home with FOUR things!  AND NO…I don’t smoke, drink or do drugs…but I do have a slight problem with fabric…but that’s not REALLY a problem…IS IT?

Have a SUNNY Sunday (hey, is that a patch of blue up there???) and Happy Quilting!~P

  1. I just did a garage sale, the only reason I did it because my husband had tools for sale. The best part of it was my granddaughter joined me and she made $25.00. Now next week I am going thrift shopping.

  2. Awesome finds! I went to a few in Victoria and they were DUDS! The best sounding one was cancelled because of 'poor' weather..... what can we say?

  3. You found some great stuff, I would bring those items home too. I found a small wooden bench for the garden this week for only $10. I should take a few pictures.

  4. Perfectly justified - every single thing! That metal wall hanging is strikingly similar to one we have in the gift shop here at the mission. It was hand made in Haiti and sells for $40! blessings, marlene

  6. I keep bringing stuff home too but I am in the black currently because more stuff has gone to the thrift store than has come home! Great finds by the way!!!!!

  8. Hi Paulette!
Just a thought, try hanging the leaf wall hanging on an angle
looks completely different and will cover more space on the wall!
Maybe a 36 - 40 inch bookcase below, (I'm seeing slate grey) with a lamp, and the new hanging plate!
I'm envious for those bowls, luv 'em! LOL
    Take care, Leslie

  9. Those are really cute bowls and what a great deal. I guess I need to go hit some garage sales as I'm in need of some bowls and can't find anything I like in my local stores. hmmm.....garage sale shopping it will be.

  11. Wow, if I thought I could find stuff that nice, I'd be hitting a few garage sales. Love the bowls - I would have fought you for those. As long as you got all your work done, it's okay to play. And it's a lot cheaper than drugs or alcohol, don't you think?

  12. Oh*MY*GOODNESS!!! You found the BEST items and for great prices! I would have brought them home with me too! LOVE the yellow bowls, bird house and that robin plate... :-) The metal leaves wall hanging looks great in your green room... if it were hanging in my home, I'd hang a few small cross stitch and/or embroidered ornies on it... just sayin'... I'm thinking I need to drive to Canada to get some fabulous garage sale items... we just have a bunch of plastic kids toys at the sales near me... geeeeezz! Happy stitching!

  14. De-clutter to add more stuff....seems reasonable to me! You got some great new stuff and at such bargains too.

  15. Well you sure got good loot!! It would have been hard for me to pass up the bowls and birdhouse for sure.

We hardly ever stop at the sales anymore. I have to be in the right mood and a sale can't look like a lot of baby stuff.

Gosh, your room is almost done!

  16. Great finds and isn't that why we declutter, so we can buy more, lol. I am cleaning today, new couch coming in this afternoon, so the floors are all clean and ready.

  17. I love bowls, have them everywhere, I will gladly take your old ones - don't throw them away, I'm sure you will have to come to Idaho for something, someday....

  18. Ok, remember I said that I cut back on quilt magazines because the less I buy, the less to declutter. Not so with dishes! I just love dishes and bowls. I have several stacks and those would look perfect in my collection!! Love the price, too....

  19. Everything you got is gorgeous! I couldn't have left them behind either! That's why I don't go garage saleing! LOL

  20. the bowls are awesome. no way would i have left them there at that price. besides, yard-saling is good for the soul too.:)

  21. Well if you're like me...I redecorate for the holidays, seasons and so forth and you just can't always use the same decorations, you need to add, take away and switch them up occasionally. And then you can always swap with a friend...well maybe she'll give them back and maybe she won't so it's no big deal to go yard saling is it?

  22. Oh Sweet P, I share your obsession. My hubbie and I love to go garage sale-ing (I like to keep the "e."); however, we don't find as awesome of finds that you seem too!

  23. I love your finds!!!:) I too would throw out 3 old bowls to make room for those beauties- LOVE them!! I love the flooring in your previous post- very pretty! And I too have a problem with magazines- mainly decorating magazines!! I go through too and rip out the pictures I like. I always rip off the cover and then staple anything I've ripped out in that issue all together. Not sure what's next- maybe a binder. Sometimes I'll write on the cover page if there's something that I totally want to do in that issue. Hope your hubby had a happy Father's Day!!:)

  24. I'm a bowl gal too, but haven't come across any good deals like that ever! You'll have great fun decorating that green room with all your finds!

  25. Ummmm.... Mom, those yellow bowls would look REALLY nice in my new kitchen ;). Just kidding, good score!

  26. No matter how you spell it, it's all about the hunt for the treasure (and the bargain price!). Good job on your finds - I LOVE those bowls.

  27. They would have all come home with me too!! LOL
But at least it is reuse & not some new trash.
