…if you pick this book up and flip through it, you will end up buying it!!
“When the Cold Wind Blows” (yes that the name of this book!)…it’s written by Barb Adams and Alma Allen of Blackbird Designs ~and talk about a lot of bang for your buck!! Not only is it beautifully illustrated and photographed but the projects are stunning! And if you are like me, you’ll want to make them all! The book starts off with the feature quilt- it’s a huge nine patch appliquéd quilt and they have made two different versions of the quilt..so that you can see how important fabric selection is (snippets of both are on the cover). Both are equally beautiful….but what I really like about the book is how user friendly it is…there is a clear picture of each block completed, there are the templates for each appliqué piece and then there is the placement diagram for each and every block!! A lot of designers leave out this important step and it makes it hell for the quilter!
There are stunning wool projects that I just HAVE to make…they really ARE calling my name!!
And then there is this Christmas Quilt..so beautiful…and so much work…BUT Oh…so worth it!!
There are many MORE projects, quilts, cross-stitch and rug hooking projects…I just showed you a few of my favourites….
So BE WARNED…If you flip through this book be prepared for the consequences…of owning one of the nicest books on the market!!
Today I am off to the Victoria Guilds Quilt Show in Saanich!! There is usually lots of eye candy at this one…so, yes, I have got my camera ready!!
Have a Fun Friday and Happy Quilting!!
Now you just had to go and show me this book.lol Of course I want it! I'll have to keep my eye out for it. Looks very lovely. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have one of their books and love how they show two color versions and then smaller projects to make, as well.

See you in Victoria! Our guild is taking a bus!!
ReplyDeleteHeard this book was wonderful. Since there are so many books and projects I have now, I may wait until I can find it used in a year or so. MAYBE I'll be ready to start a new project then! Thanks for the warning!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a very delicious book...
ReplyDeleteOh, P, don't you just love their work.. I have some of their books and love them.. Have a great time at guild and a good weekend.

OOOHHHHH I need that book - I love blackbird designs and that Christmas quilt is a must do.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time at the show - Can't wait to see your show pics!
I too own this book and wasn't happy until I owned it. I love looking at the images and hope to find time to actually make something in that book soon! Lizzie
ReplyDeleteI've almost bought this book a bunch of times. I want to make the basket quilt. I haven't seen it in person, though.
ReplyDeleteI was given this book & adore it. A friend has borrowed it at the moment to make the applique quilt & I am busy making little baskets!
ReplyDeleteOoh yes that book is wonderful, but my head hurts - so many beautiful things to make and so little time. Must re-read your post on retirement, although you still sound very busy!
ReplyDeleteLove that Christmas quilt - hope you had fun today!
