Marie’s Penny…

How many of you out there in in Blogland would LOVE to work with wool but HATE to do handwork?  Or perhaps you are allergic to wool?  Or have never learned how to do embroidery stitches…or perhaps you just don’t have the time to complete a project like this???

WELL then, I think Marie(from Oregon) may have the solution for you!!  Here’s her penny!  Lovely isn’t it!  Rich in colours and texture…soft and luxurious and perfect for Spring! It’s a Buttermilk Basin pattern and would normally take several days to hand stitch…BUT look closely…

…Yup it’s completely machine stitched…and it’s gorgeous!  The only thing wrong is the stitches are too perfect!!

Marie set her sewing machine to blanket stitch and flew at it…finishing in record time…!  I don’t know about you…but I can live with being too perfect!! :)

Thanks for sharing, Marie!!

This morning we are off to the Palm Spring’s Quilt Show!  Then we have two more Quilting shops to ‘do’ to complete the Spring Fling Shop Hop…it’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it!  This year the shops are gifting everyone with Fat Quarters of Rouenneries Deux…lovely stuff!!  So generous of them!

Have a FUN Friday and Happy Quilting!~P

  1. Thanks for showing her method. I do have this stitch on my machine which may be calling my name! Have fun at the show!

  2. I hand stitching and by machine. I like both methods...by hand is always great to do if you are traveling or watching something on TV that your hubby is.... watching!

Have a fun day at the show.

  3. Oregonians are normally so creative!! I believe it has something to do with the weather up here, and the fact that we spend so much time indoors during the Winter! Nice time to learn new skills, or hone the ones you already have an interest in. On the other hand, there is a lot to be said for hiking in the sunshine, and relaxing outside, and playing golf on a warm, dry course! Thanks for sharing.

  5. Beautiful piece. I have use the machine for art pieces, it is a nice way to do things but I find it takes me as long as hand stitching, lol.

  6. Beautiful work and perfect stitches is fine with me , I often do this by machine as well if time is a factor and I think it works well.

  7. I have wondered if the wool applique could be done on the machine. Does she fuse the pieces first or just lay them on the background?

  8. Thanks for all the lovely comments on my work. To answer Karen's question I use Lite Steam a Steam 2 to fuse the wool pieces down. It doesn't make it stiff, just enough to hold in place without using pins. Paulette, thanks for sharing my work for others to enjoy.
