This is what’s left after trimmings my Rob Peter to Pay Paul blocks…or rather this is what I trimmed off my blocks…and I am nervous about it!! The pattern said to square up the blocks to 7 1/2” but I had to trim them to 7 1/4” as the blocks were a little wonky!! :o( They were so easy to cut and sew…things were going so well…maybe TOO well…?
This is what the trimmed blocks look like laid out on my floor…sure hope everything matches up OK. I wasn’t sure how to trim these blocks…what do I line the ruler up to when trimming??!…I kind of just eye-balled it…and am hoping for the best!

ReplyDeleteIf you quilt it, wash it and stand back from across the room, you won't notice it at all (if it were even wrong, which it won't be). That's what I do with ALL my quilts! It looks great. I love the colors!!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I think if they are all squared up to be the same size they will sew together perfectly. Are you making a table runner or just playing?

ReplyDeleteThose blocks are wonderful. The colors of the fabric and the way it all blends is gorgeous. They look perfectly sewn to me. Matching points is always tricky. Pin,pin, and pin somemore.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful, this die has now gone to the top of my wish list. I think it is perfect, and only you can see any problems with it. Were the blocks noticable in size differances? Could you just ease them in without trimming them?

ReplyDeleteI'll be curious to see if cutting an additional 1/4 an inch off the required block size makes a difference in the pattern when you sew them together. Not a single comment from someone who has made these blocks and could offer any suggestions, I guess you're on your own, and we'll all learn from you.
ReplyDeleteIf possible, I think I would move my needle to the right two positions, just to give you a couple of extra threads.

ReplyDeleteThe blocks look beautiful and the fabric really is gorgeous! I think I would do the same as Thelma suggested and just fudge my seems a little bit to accommodate for the extra "robbing" that had to be done to a couple of the blocks! Once the backing is on....no one is going to check your seam allowances!! I can't wait to see it.

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful. Do you have it sewn together and how did the wonky corners go? I am making one now and I am trying to figure out how to trim to square up the blocks to make the point all touch equally. Any suggestions, ideas, and etc.
