Progress is being made…seven more blocks prepped and ready for stitching…
These blocks are small…only 4 1/2” which means when they are all sewn together they will be only 4”! All together now….”Ahhhhhh…”
Only TWO MORE blocks to go!
Now I DO love these wee blocks (how could I not!) BUT at what cost?…
When I ordered this kit I thought the cost was ‘reasonable’…BUT when I see how small the quilt is going to be…I mean it’s REALLY small… and when I see what’s in each little bag…wee itty bitty small scraps of wool…some smaller than the scraps that you find in my garbage can! You check out the price…do you think it’s worth it? Also notice if you don’t buy the pattern with the kit they only take off $5…yet the cost of the pattern is $20! NOT good Math…and not good customer service! I know that this BOM was the ‘FREE’ pattern that came with Primitive Gatherings main 2013 Summer BOM …so I guess this is their way of saying you won’t get ripped off if you order the main BOM! And then you won’t have to pay the $20 for a pattern that should be a lot less! And you won’t have to pay the $75 for wee itty bitty pieces of wool. All you have to pay is the $500 + postage for the total cost of the main BOM…sounds like a sweet deal to me…NOT!
BUT it is a sweet pattern…and it is going to be a cute mat…if only I could lose that ‘ripped off feeling’…the BLOOM has definitely left ‘Summer Blooms’!
Geeze it sounds like I got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning!! :O}
Have a super Saturday and happy stitching!~P
Psst, the link only shows the price for the backing fabric. How much was it?
ReplyDeleteOk, strike that. I just noticed the drop-down menu. Wow, that's the price of a lap quilt at other online stores.
ReplyDeleteBOMs are often big money makers because they can charge outrageous prices for the patterns, use up older fabrics they want to get out of their shops, and I find the cut pieces are often inaccurate. Right now I am participating in one where I cannot even get them to send me a picture of this month's block...I want to gripe about it too!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the $500 plus shipping price for the BOW? I love Lisa's summer kits and get it every year. This year I joined and prepaid $260 for the full kit for the blocks plus shipping and preordered the finishing kit for $65 for a total of $325 which includes shipping and the free small quilt blocks. For another $16.50 (I think) I can get the finishing kit for the small quilt for a total of $340 for both quilts. I don't think that's a bad price for hand dyed wool and of course for the time they spend cutting all the small pieces for the kits. It compares very well to the other online shops where I have gotten BOMs.
ReplyDeleteI personally think the price is outrageous, however if people keep paying those prices, they will keep charging them. I would just buy the patterns and use my small pieces left from other projects, to heck with their high pressure selling tactics.
ReplyDeleteI as well do love these wee blocks!
ReplyDeleteAnd as we say : when we love we don't count (the price)!
Those look gorgeous together, love how it is coming out.

Hi! I agree Paulette! In Canada, if we can get in on a "deal", it is the $12 - 20 for shipping to Canada per order....
ReplyDeleteA weekly summer Freebie, you cannot preorder!
I agree with Marie, if I really like it, I buy the pattern, use my stash or watch for fabrics to go on sale!
Take care, Leslie
I got mine free when I ordered the quilt BOM.. But I was too cheap to order the finishing kit. So I did my own thing and framed them up in an old window.
ReplyDeleteBut I hear ya.... They are super cute, but expensive!

I agree with you. I am participating in the PG block of the week this year, as I have done twice in the past. I did not plan on doing it again because of previous disappointing experiences, but really liked the quilt. So I can only blame myself for the $4 shipping charged each week for an envelope which barely weighs 3-4oz, much higher than the post office charges for the same item. The first three "freebies" were not included at all. My fabric is so frugally cut that I am trimming maybe two threads (and I am a careful cutter). This is a huge moneymaker for PG and it is the very last time I will purchase something from them. Too much hype and very little substance, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI love these blocks and have wished several times that I would have joined the BOW last year. But, I'm in it this year and I LOVE it! I don't understand why people are saying they are short on fabric - I've not had any trouble - there's been plenty there for me. And honestly...with the price of wool - I don't want them to send me tons, because they would have to charge me more. I do know that they send everything with delivery confirmation so that their packages can be tracked, so that is a little more expensive. But, hey...those treasures are worth a little insurance, and I sure couldn't drive to a shop for that price. I know someone mentioned the freebie for this year - I didn't get my first one either, because that is the rule - if you don't order before the first shipment, you don't get those blocks. I can't complain - it's FREE! Happy stitching - your blocks are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYours is the second negative blog comment I have read today about P G.
ReplyDeleteAs Jacqueline just wrote this is the second negative blog comment I have also seen about PG today. I have also just started reading Lisa's blog and to be honest her own comments on her blog will keep me from ordering from PG.
ReplyDeleteMy personal feeling is that it is a huge racket! I've never ordered a BOM online because I cannot justify the price. (I have a stash to use, for Pete's sake!)I know P G isn't the only one that charges those prices, but it is the customer service I am having a hard time with.
ReplyDeletePS, She should just come out on her blog and tell stupid people not to bother emailing her with stupid questions. It is certainly what she implies again and again.
ReplyDeleteI have a GC and now I'm worried about what will happen when I try to use it. :( What goes around, comes around- good customer service should be first on the list. It's not easy dealing with the public; but if someone has a legitimate problem, it should be resolved...with a smile.
ReplyDeleteYes, wool kits and BOM's are getting very expensive, especially when you look at the finished size.
your blocks look really lovely but at a price. I have never seen a BOM that I feel justifies the cost, but I am mean and tight with my pennies. Good to see the variety of comments that have been shared today
ReplyDeleteA shame hat I've read too negative reviews on this shop. I haven't ordered because of prices. But as long as quilters purchase them they can sell! BOMs are over priced but a lot of work goes into prepping. I worked in a quilt shop that sold Thimbleberries kits (back in the day). Our shop owner sold them inexpensivelt and we always told her to add in cost of our time prepping! That shop is no longer in business but look, PG is!
ReplyDeleteThis is the second negative post for PG. I don't order BOM because they are WAY over priced, I don't know why people keep paying the high price each month. Having said that, this year I"m doing the Fat Quarter shop BOM, they have enough fabric in each block to make 2.I think it's $15.99 which includes shipping. I don't feel I'm getting ripped off with this one.
ReplyDeleteI have LONGED to do make these wonderful projects that PG designs. Honestly, I think she's the best designer out there for wool. I have been so tempted time and time again to do the summer project. I always tell myself if I just be patient, the pattern will come out. At some point I think I'll buy the pattern you're working on...I love it but I'll use my own scraps. As is...It's too expensive for me to dole out the money but with the pattern only...that I can do.
ReplyDeleteOh well, it is such a cute pattern, maybe the indignation will fade. Although, I have a similar beef with the Victoria Sampler and their extortionate cross stitch kits. It's been a few years now, and it still galls me!
