Christmas?…NO, it’s SUMMERTIME!

So I had a bit of a dilemma…I cut out the entire Settler’s Pride quilt only to later discover that I didn’t have enough black wool for the background fabric!  Believe me I pulled out EVERY wool bin to check…I was one and a half blocks short!  AND no time to order more..

SEWWW I needed a NEW project to work on during our journey south…Enter…SUMMERTIME by Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings!!  I bought this pattern at the Quilter’s Coop in Temecula last year so it is only fitting that I work on it this year on our return trip…

So I hauled out the Heat and Bond Lite…

P1100994

..miles and…

P1100995

..miles of it…

P1100996 and traced out every little bitty piece….  I must say Lisa REALLY knows how to write a pattern…she has included everything, even the reverse pages and layout pages!!  EXCELLENT PATTERN!!

Then I hauled out the wool…needed to get the dye pot out to dye some more greens and yellows…

P1100988

YUP…plenty of background fabric…this lovely mottled tea stained cotton.

P1100985  The heat and bond was then ironed to the wool…P1100998

And placed into their appropriate block bags and the block background fabric was cut out….all ready for the trip down south…WHEW!!

So do you think I have enough to keep me busy and out of the driver’s hair??…I am the worse back seat driver…sewing keeps my eyes on my work and not on the road…or on all those CRAZY freeway drivers!!  I stitch a lot faster around San Francisco and LA…:o)

Thanks Debbie (WoodenSails) for letting me know (a little sourly LOL) that I won the Buggy Barns give away!!  I really don’t like to gloat BUT did you see the PILE of loot to be won?  Here let me show you!!

Pretty sweet!!  Thanks again Debbie!!  And thanks to the Buggy Barn for sharing some most of their store!!

Have a FUN Friday and Happy Quilting!~P

  2. LOL, you are funny.
I have enough to do, I cannot quilt as fast as you, so glad you won;)

I love the tea stained muslin, just cut a piece for my background. Going to try and get the pieces cut out and work on sewing them today, then maybe I can finish that and the other one off this weekend.

  8. I made that quilt but did it one block at a time. Can't even imagine how long that took you to trace and iron! Hey, congrats on the win. Lucky girl. Oh and be on the lookout for the new tea stained muslin that Lisa has done for Moda. It's yummy and oh so Moda soft!

  11. You certainly have a project cut out for you! I'm like you and have to have something to work on while my DH drives us to see our DH down south. Last time I made the mistake of looking up and then said (out loud) "just keep sewing, just keep sewing" in the singsong of Dora from finding Nemo - LOL!

  14. You are really on a roll with the wool! I am not a good "back seat driver" either. Hubby usually says "close your eyes"! Hope to sew soon for Friday Night also...great win for you!

  15. Of course it's Summer Time. We have a lovely balmy day down under. Some days it's even too hot and sticky to sew.

I envy you being able to sew as you travel. I get travel sick so keep my eyes up.

  17. Looks like you will have lots to keep your eyes and hands busy while making your way South. Another win, amazing! Isn't it exciting though. I won a draw at Sawyer's Customer Appreciation night and though it was only a small win it was great fun!

  18. How do you do that so fast??? You must have tracer elves in your toy shop. Congrats on your cleaning out the store there, girl!

  19. Congratulations on your win. It looks like there's some great goodies there.

It also looks like there was a lot of tracing and cutting work to get all those blocks ready. I wonder how many blocks you'll get done on the way downd? Do you ration yourself so you've got enough for the trip back too?
