The tree is up…the living room and dining room are decorated…butter tarts and shortbread are in the freezer AND the Grinch has magically disappeared!! Funny how that works…
I even had time to play yesterday! I finally got the truck and tree cut out and fused down. I don’t know when I will stitch it…
but I do know that if I didn’t cut it out NOW it would never get done…you know - out of sight, out of mind!
This was the pattern that was designed by Granola Girl’s Debbie Field..
I’m not sure where she is going with this series but I love these two little blocks…The truck REALLY reminds me of when I was young, how my brother and I use to go out into the woods and bring home a tree for our family and two of our neighbours. We would drive the truck down an old logging road and then trek out into the bush until we found the PERFECT trees! One year we actually got lost and went in circles for a long time before stumbling back onto the road! We of course NEVER mentioned any of this to our mom!! Or the fact that we saw cougar droppings…or at least that’s what my brother called them!! Now that I think about it…how would he know what ‘they’ looked like?…I mean really..cougars could dig holes and bury it like normal cats do…I’m going to have to ask him about THAT one…I know, a little late…but what’s 40 years give or take..haha
Isn’t it funny what evokes these old Christmas memories..a single quilt block of a truck and a tree…and who knew at the time, that this would be a fond memory…trudging through the wet, damp forest in search of the perfect tree!!
The third block in this series has a turkey on it…which I decided not to use…I feel bad enough about eating turkey without putting a face on it!!
The fourth block is being released towards the end of December..can’t wait to see what it is! Debbie isn’t feeling well so it may be later. All of these blocks are FREE…part of her Home for the Holiday give away! VERY generous of Debbie!
So stop by Debbie’s Blog- The Granola Girl Designs and wish her a speedy recovery and have a look at the blocks that she has made up- one set is made out of cottons and one in wools…both are gorgeous…and did I mention FREE!
So hope you are feeling better Debbie…and soon!!
Have a super Sunday and Happy Quilting!~P
I love these little blocks too, but it's going to have to wait until after the holidays unfortunately! Yours are looking great!

ReplyDeleteI am stitching on some wool on cotton blocks today.
I love that truck one! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteThose are so adorable. We too went to the woods and got our Christmas tree...the last 6 years while living in Utah. One thing I miss now living in TN.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas cheer being sent your way!
I really love the truck with the tree...missed cutting down our own tree this year...I think the quilt will be lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou can make the wool appliqué look so cute! Until recent years my DH used to go to the woods too and bring us a perfect tree, narrow or with only short branches on one side so we could place it close to the wall!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how certain blocks can trigger memories ... you will have to let us know the answer about the cougar droppings.
ReplyDeleteI love the effect that quilting blocks have on us! Such sweet memories of hunting down the perfect tree. Thanks for your email...My grinch is gone too!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteYour banner is so cute and love the blocks.. You have a great holiday..
Hugs,
Maggey
Love that truck!
ReplyDeleteDarling little blocks! We never wandered in search of a tree - I'm a city girl born and bred - we always went down to the local lot. I loved real trees, until my girlfriend went with her new hubby to cut theirs and got it home and decorated, and the tree started to shake - THOUSANDS of tiny spiders all hatched out! Needless to say, it went to the curb, decorations and all - they bought a fake one that they still use to this day.
ReplyDeleteHmm, was your brother older than you?
ReplyDeleteAs for the Grinch, I'm glad he's gone, but couldn't he have come to collect mine and taken him away too? Apart from the kids' advent calendars there's not a decoration in sight here.
Darling truck block. My dad had a blue '42 chevy truck and Mr. Creations had a blue Datsun truck (now Nissan) truck when we met.
ReplyDeletei love the blocks! cute cute.
