I could KICK myself!!

This growing old business is not for the faint of heart…it takes work to keep the body moving…and I have failed miserably!!  Yup…I have not been going to the gym and exercising regularly…I have been busy having WAY TOO much FUN!!

Over ten years ago I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back…I was told by the back specialist to either go on medication or join a gym.  I opted for the gym…it took a year to get my back in shape (or rather my core muscles) but I did it and  have been pain free for over TWELVE years!!  (This from someone who lived with chronic pain for several years!!)  Exercising everyday has become a way of life and I knew that it was going to be a life long commitment!

So on Sunday when my back ‘went out’ I slapped myself and said I KNEW IT!!  I have only been to the gym THREE times since arriving at the park!!  THREE TIMES!  It’s no wonder!  Since Sunday I have been on pain meds…and flat on my back!!  STUPID ME!!

BUT today I am better…and I’m happy to say that I’m off to the gym!! Jeeze…Road to California is in EIGHT DAYS…I have to be in shopping form!!

Before you feel too sorry for me, I DID manage to get to the Painted Lady Quilt Shop in Redlands on Saturday…SEE this is my problem…I am having WAY TOO MUCH FUN…I have to get out of the Quilt Shops and back into the gym……do you want to see what was there?…at the shop that is?  NOT the gym…yup…we are cut from the same cloth!!  Ask any quilter whether they would like to go to the Quilt Shop or the Gym…and I can tell you the answer!!

Yahoo…(insert a back flip here!! haha!)  SALE SIGN on the outside of the shop!!  That’s ALWAYS a good sign…

I arrived as this quilt was being taken down…it’s called Debonair and it was gorgeous!!

The shop has the whole line of Downton Abbey Fabrics…very pretty!

Loved this sweet little Schnibble’s quilt…

Lots to look at…

I’m loving that blue shirting…

Yup….lots of very nice things in the shop…and some of the fabric was 20% off…always a good thing!!

Sew today…no Quilting in the Clubhouse..:o(

Sitting is still difficult…but with a (gentle) round at the gym…followed by a soak in the hot tub I will be in fighting form!!  Look out Road…(ow..ow..ow…)… Here I come…(hobble hobble hobble…)!!

Yup…this growing old is NOT for the faint of heart!!

Have a wicked Wednesday and happy Quilting!~P

  1. OHHHHH--I feel your pain, I am the exact same way--if I exercise I remain pain free and I've not been doing any yoga or stretching since we left Montana--time for both of us to get back on track--hope you are feeling MUCH better soon Paulette!!

  4. Hi Paulette I hope you feel better soon. I think there is nothing worse than being under the weather when you are away. Love the pictures of your quilt shop visits, just a shame we can't actually be with you in person. Susie x

  7. Good Morning Paulette, thanks for letting us tag along on your quilt shop trip. Sounds like we are in the same boat with our backs. I injured mine back in the 1960's and ever since I've had problems that get worst with age. The best thing that I have found is stretching and yoga and if I do my routine everyday . . . I feel pretty good, but miss a few days and you would think I was 20 years older :) We are both very blessed that we can control our pain with exercise.
God bless and have fun on your "Road to California".

  8. Nothing worse than back pain. Makes you feel so helpless. Take care of yourself at the gym and don't push too hard, takes a bit of time to get back into the routine. Of course, a stop at a quilt shop always perks one up.

  11. Oh....I feel that pain! I was going to a physical therapist for awhile and it sure helped. Now I'm lucky if I get my stretches in. These little painful reminders make us get back on the exercise routine. Good luck with yours and make sure you are ready for the next road trip and fabric store. We love seeing all the fun places and great fabrics.

  12. I know the feeling, I tend to get lazy in the winter and don't keep up with my exercises. Hope you feel better soon and I know hitting the road again is good incentive;)

  13. I wondered about you being AWOL! We've figured out how to read (audio books) while we are quilting, now we need to find a way to quilt/sew and exercise at the same time. I've heard of gals who put their sewing machine and ironing board in different rooms or different levels of the houes, but that seems so counter productive! I got a Fitbit for Christmas, and now I can actually measure what a slug I have become. Ugh. Please take care of yourself! We love you!

  16. Same issues here...feel so bad for you! Thank goodness shopping doesn't require sitting down! I am glad this happened far enough in advance for you to get ready for The Road!!!! Can't wait for those photos. Robin will be there!

  17. Yeah, I am going through the same thing. Not as much pain though (thank goodness!) the kids went back to school after snow days and Christmas vacation. Needless to say, a new longarm for a Christmas present and home alone. Well, exercise wasn't a priority. Shame on me (and you), we know better! Feel better soon! (Gentle) hugs!

  18. Oh noooooooooo....not the back. I can truly sympathize with you. I still haven't gotten to the gym cuz I'm afraid I'll hurt it more if I do the wrong exercises. Going to look into Pilates! Get well so you can walk that Road..... Thinking of you!
