2014… Year of the UFO!

I declare that 2014 is going to be THE Year to finish up all/most/some of my UFOs!  (…am I wavering ALREADY??) This is NOT a resolution…I always feel bad when I fail my New Years’ resolution…This is going to be my GOAL…huge difference.  A goal can be long term…yup… I’m already wavering…my UFOs are doomed….

First up to the plate is ‘Midnight Harvest’, a Primitive Gathering pattern.  I cut up the fabric and wool a few YEARS ago…I think when I discovered that the stars were finishing up at a wee, itty bitty 3 1/2” I put the fabric and wool into a tote and quietly slid it into a closet…to forget-about-it…until NOW!!

This past week I have been busy…sewing those little guys together…AND now that they are together… they are sweet and scrappy!!

P1250706

Excuse the wrinkles…it happens to the best of us!!  The topper is back in that tote waiting for the pumpkins to be hand stitched!

P1250704

But at least it is NOW a topper…and it will be a nice project to work on in the RV…P1250705

My ‘GOAL’ is to have this on my kitchen table for the Fall of 2014!!

P1250707

Totally do-able, don’t you think?  (just nod your head…)

Sew…onto the next UFO…yup, I already have it out of the tote and onto the table!!  Stay tuned…this one is a REAL OLDIE…but it is also a GOODIE!

What about YOU?  Have you got a UFO hanging around…or do you have several….?  The Decease Quilter’s…the one who had several HUNDRED…maybe even a thousand UFOs, REALLY made me sit up and take notice!!  I do not want my family opening the closet door to see THAT stack of totes!!  Yowzers!  (BUT man what a Garage Sale THAT would make!:o) I can see Sandy clicking her heels as she leaves my driveway yelling “Start the CAR!!  Start the Car!!” ) Now HOW did we get HERE and on the first day of the year!!  Sheesh…!!

So there you have it…my GOAL is to finish as many UFOs as I can…with a sprinkling of new quilts in the mix…because we all have to have a little bit of FUN along the way!

I hope you rang in the New Year with a blast…and are now all prepared to do some UFO busting of your own…!!  Come on bring’em on…

Thanks for stopping by…and all the best to you and yours!~P

PS… I said yesterday that I was going to tell you about the WORSE tool of 2013…but then I started thinking that was just too negative!  We need to start the New Year off with a good vib…a positive outlook…like finishing off UFOs…huh?

  4. I'm thinking I'll be adopting your goal for the year too... and would you believe "Midnight Harvest" would be one of my UFO's too? lol! Yours looks fabulous and totally do-able for a Fall 2014 finish! Happy New year!

  6. I'm totally with you on UFO busting. On the last day of 2013 I took a top to my quilter...seemed like a good way to end one year and start the next. It's frustrating to get a new magazine or quilt book, be inspired, but not able to jump to a new project with a clear conscience when loaded with UFOs. Another cool thing with UFO busting is that you do off-season projects, like pumpkins in January, right? Bring on the show!!

  7. I definitely have a few UFOs that I hope to finish early in this year. I just hate having them still hanging over my head and the only way to get rid of that feeling is to finish them :)

  11. Oh, Paulette, your little star quilt is a beauty. Too bad it stayed in the closet for so long. But now that it's out, and only needs some hand stitching, it will be a fabulous addition to your fall decor.
I hope to get a few UFOs out of the way this year, but because I have so many flimsies, my main goal is to have one quilted every month and in December, every family member will get a finished quilt for Christmas.

  12. Rather than a word, I'm choosing a phrase...Sew Finish it Up..is mine for 2014. It covers so many aspects of my life and allows for new things to be added...sew a sewing I will be doing today.

  14. Midnight Harvest is a beauty and deserves to be completed. So glad you're getting it done. I brought some UFO's to work on as well. We arrived at Desert Shadows last night and are getting settled in today. Hopefully tonight I'll get some stitching done. :-)

  20. I don't know. We're kind of a funny family, but my sisters and I used to tell our mom that she could leave all the ufo's she wanted to and we'd work through the worst of our grief finishing them up for her! lol She's still alive and kicking thank goodness, but she still has quite a stack of those ufos!

  21. I don't have many UFOs, but I do have some tops that are waiting to be quilted. Perhaps I should get on with those this year?

Happy New Year to you and your family.

  22. I'm sure you'll finish this lovely quilt before autumn.
Wishing you a happy and creative 2014!

  23. Good plan to start with a UFO that you want to finish before the end of the season, lots of motivation, plus it is small so achievable.
I think there could be worst things to leave your kids then UFO's? I keep telling my Dad he has to fix the house so that it is easy for me to sell, but never mention his shed, which is full to the brim of wood for all his woodworking projects - cos I figure that would be like him telling me to use up my stash!
Anyway this is a cute pattern so will look forward to seeing it finished!
