…Quilting and Garage Sales!! MY two favourite subjects!!
LOOK at what I found at a Garage Sale while I was on ‘holiday’!!
The story behind the quilt was…Grandma had made it years ago and it’s been in a plastic bag, in a closet ever since!! Grandma is now in Quilter’s Heaven (where they, I’m hoping, appreciate her quilts!)…I guess the grand-daughter felt that it was safe to finally sell the quilt!
This quilt is made from old gauzy fabric…and is super soft and all hand quilted…and not a spot or stain or a rip or a tear on it! (I believe that it really was in that plastic bag since birth!!)
Can you see how thin the fabric is? Grandma wasn’t the best at matching points…but that’s OK because she more than made up for it with her gorgeous Hand Quilting!! Such teeny, tiny stitches…in a wee clam shell design. LOVE IT!! How anyone could EVER part with this quilt is beyond me!! I would wrap this quilt around me and it would be like getting a hug from grandma! The quilt is big…and VERY SUMMERY! Now for the good part…are you sitting down…the grand-daughter sold it to me for $12!! Yup, grandma is rolling over in her grave!! But not to worry…I promise to love, honour and take VERY good care of this beauty…and I can also promise you this…it won’t be sitting around in a plastic bag in my closet!!
I have GOT to say it…“SCORE!!!”
Have a terrific Tuesday and Happy Quilting!~P
Score is right! That quilt is beautiful! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteThat makes me both happy for you and sad that she sold something so special. I bought three 40's/50's quilts worn but good condition from a woman at a yard sale for $15. She said her grandma mad them. So sad.
ReplyDeleteSCORE!... is right!!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Love finding bargains and deals at garage and estate sales! Congratulations!
What a beautiful quilt! So nice that you also got to know a bit of the story behind it, I think that makes the quilt even more special. I'm not sure I could ever part with a quilt (or anything else) made by my grandmother, but definitely a great find for you!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I'm glad you found and bought this quilt so that it can be loved! I can't imagine not using and then selling something like this :(
ReplyDeleteHow terribly sad that this granddaughter did not see the value of something hand made by her grandmmother. But I am happy that you will be the keeper of the quilt and will love it the way grandma wanted it to be love.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quilt and wonderful find! You deserve such a good deal because you WILL take care of it! Much better than granddaughter letting the dogs sleep on it!

ReplyDeleteYou saved a beauty. Too bad Gramma's family didn't appreciate all the work and love that went into this treasure. Lucky for you and Gramma you did. Enjoy those wrap-around hugs from her. =)
This time you really scored big. This quilt is a wonderful treasure. I can't believe someone would sell it for $12. Oh well, their loss, your gain. It's definitely in the right home now.
ReplyDeleteBig SCORE!
ReplyDeleteBoy what a deal! But I think that "grandma" is dancing in her grave because someone has that quilt that will love, cherish and appreciate the work she did and that will out weigh the price it sold for.
ReplyDeleteShame on that Grandaughter! Shame!! Thank you for rescuing the quilt Paulette, I'm sure Grandma's glad some one can love and appreciate it now.
ReplyDeleteI would have been dancing all the way home! I love the clamshell quilting design, so sweet with the pattern.

ReplyDeleteScore is an understatement Ms Paulette!!! Why in the world would anyone part with something that special is beyond me but I'm glad it was you who purchased the quilt--it went to a very good home!
ReplyDeleteI need to go shopping with you, what an unbelievable deal and lucky that you found it, someone who appreciates the love and work that went into it.

Obviously the seller had no idea of value. Good score, Paulette. And Grandma is more than likely that the quilt has seen the light of day and will be loved by someone.
ReplyDeleteYou did score! Love that first picture, it's so pretty with the flowers!
ReplyDeleteOMG Paulette!!! You are the luckiest woman I know!!:) That's a beautiful quilt and I'm sure you'll love it lots!! Also, loved your post from yesterday! Sounds like you had a wonderful time with family and the pics of Vancouver are gorgeous- thanks for sharing!! Hope your feet are better soon!!:)
ReplyDeleteI want to go on holidays where you go!!
ReplyDeleteI hope that they really needed the money you gave them for this beautiful quilt.
I have a feeling that one day they will realise how special this quilt is & how much they gave up.
It is good to know the quilt has gone to a home where the work will be appreciated, the quilt cared for & loved.
I wonder if they could provide you with Granny's name etc so you could label this quilt?
Enjoy

ReplyDeleteOne of my favoritest patterns - I am SO glad that this quilt found you - Grandma must be very happy that her quilt has been given such a wonderful home :)
ReplyDeleteIt hurts me to hear stories like this, and think that a sweet little grandmother labored over that treasure to pass down, and the family members didn't appreciate it enough to keep it and do exactly what you said, wrap it around them and feel her presence..you will cherish it and I am glad it is with someone who will appreciate each tiny stitch..
ReplyDeleteWow..$12...that is amazing!
ReplyDeleteHow sad that the GD sold it...so glad you found it, I know you'll treasure it.
Wrap it around you and enjoy every little stitch and love that made this quilt...

ReplyDeleteAt least now, that quilt is in good hands and look how many of us are oohing and aahing over the GM's work ... she would be thrilled to read all of our comments and know that she made a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteSCORE is right. Its a shame that the granddaugher didnt see the love that went into making it and keep it for herself. But lets not jugde. Who knows what is happening in her life. It a beaty.
