Hey, it’s not all gallivanting around here…OH NO…I do occasionally work…
Working on my clam shells isn’t the best project while living in an RV. Every time I add a row this is what happens…
Last week I needed to add a row to my clam shell quilt top so out came a long table…in this case it turned out to be my ironing board, which I set up in the kitchen…here I have just glued down my row of clams and I put books on top to keep everything in place while the glue dried.
In the evenings I hand applique it down…then when finished stitching the row, out comes the ironing board and more clams! See what I mean, it is a process and one that isn’t always fun…it can be work! And yesterday it was just too hot to work inside…but out in my ‘shade room’ it was perfect!
Yes, that’s Roxanne’s glue…a little dab here and there holds the row in place long enough to get it hand stitched down…
Here’s the top from the other side…see it’s growing! Darn, wouldn’t you know that perfect wee breeze would blow the top in!
Now I need to go and get my books to anchor the clams in place while they dry!
Yes, work, work, work…life is tough for a Snowbird! It’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it!
It’s in the 80Fs again today (high 20C for the rest of the world) so it looks like I will be hanging in the shade room for the rest of the week! (We do have AC in the RV but this is way more fun!;) I hope your corner of the world is just as warm and pleasant!
Have a Wildly Wicked and Warm Wednesday and Happy Stitching….
Wow you are really coming along on another one of your beautiful projects. I got one more wee house built yesterday! Hope for another one today! Keep cool. Almost done with my coffee!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful project and such a pretty piece. I'd say your shade room looks soooooo inviting. As we are at a wind chill advisory today. Got room lol.

We are unseasonably warm here in the Treasure Valley! Blue skies...but too breezy to take a project outside and keep it still. I love your color selection for your clamshells. So fresh & feminine! Every time you post pictures I'm taken back to Sisters around 30 years ago when probably 1 out of every 10 quilts on display was a clamshell!
ReplyDeleteLove the clam shells. what size are the ones you are working with? I am making a small runner and using 2". We, snowbirds, sure enjoy our shade rooms. Clam on!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the clam shell quilt in progress! So pretty with those beautiful fabrics!
ReplyDeleteGreat progress on your clamshell. I made a mini wallhanging last year and thought I would never finish.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all the photos of the Hemet quilt show. I missed going since I sprained my ankle that week. Your photos made up for it.
Thanks, Charlotte
The clamshells will be fabulous when finished. Lots of patience needed for this one.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours in your clamshell quilt. Have you tried Elmers washable School Glue? I use it with fabric and iron it dry which is quite fast.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like great "work"! I really love it. What a beauty. The breeze sounds great too with that temperature. We are sunny here right now but very cold. Would like some snow tho.
ReplyDeleteYou are making lovely progress on your clam quilt Paulette!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the warm weather while you can, it is cooler here at home but we are having some sunny skies since Saturday. Spring bulbs and flowering trees are starting to show off our banana belt status!
Wonder whether you will get more comments on the beautiful quilt or the fabulous weather? Our corner of the world is 3 degrees today and colder tomorrow. Thoughts of quilts warm me, but not clam shells--too much work!
ReplyDeleteWhen you get done with the clam shell quilt, you can make a few more for an ironing board cover. Looking good.
ReplyDeleteI love the little peeks into your RV life.. I've always wondered how you manage to do so many things! Your clams look great!
ReplyDeleteYour clams are so lovely. Stitching in the "shade room" sounds like it could come out of a novel. Always enjoy your posts.
ReplyDeleteNothing better than sewing in that outdoor shade room!! Lucky you!! the clamshells look great...and fun!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine trying to do a large project in a trailer, lol.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of using an outside screened tent though, have a room just for yourself;)

The clam shells look really good. For the first time I am a little tempted by them.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you have a spare bed? We are forecast -17°C on Friday morning. In almost twenty five years I've not seen a forecast like it. To say I am envious of high positive twenties is an understatement!

Going to be a beauty.. You live it up in the warmth, we have 101/2 inches of snow and Tonite -6-8. , yeah, live it up. Hah! Spring, where are thou?
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I have to take everything to make the cows out of the tote, put the leaf in the dining table, lay all the little pieces out on the pattern and start sewing, it takes me about 2 hours to make one cow so I am lucky if I get one finished per day, then put all that stuff away so we can make a meal and eat. The life of a RVer!
ReplyDeleteGlad you can enjoy the beauty outside of your RV somedays with your Clamshells. It is growing. Looking good!
ReplyDeleteYour clam shells look fantastic! Makes me want to start one. Are you using a pattern from a book? I've seen many different ways to do this. I like how you are gluing and then stitching.
