Well the rooster is crowing and the coffee is brewing…and it is another gorgeous day on Vancouver Island! What can I say…it doesn’t get any better than this!
A few months back, Heritage Quilt Guild was donated a truck load of panels…you know cheater tops, as I’ve heard some call them. They were all laid out on tables and we ooohhhed and auhhhhed them. (Wish I had taken a picture!! Such variety and colours and styles!) The Heritage members were given a challenge…take home a panel and turn it into something wonderful for charity!
I spotted this Mary Engelbreit panel and remembered that I had some of Mary’s fabric left over from a Dresden Quilt that I had made a couple of years ago. This would be a good way to use up that fabric...
So I took it home and lickity-split…in no time at all I had my quilt made!! It was a fast, easy and FUN quilt to make!
I didn’t have as much of the fabric as I had hoped so I was limited to what I could do…so I ended up keeping it simple! More borders…
..and circle flowers to mimic the flowers in the fabric…
I quilted them on as I went…
She’s done! AND in plenty of time…due date was end of the of summer! This was my first panel quilt but it certainly won’t be my last! This would make a fast and easy gift for any baby or child!
I cheated…and I’m proud of it! :o))
Have a good one! P
Great job, Paulette! Sometimes those panels can look very static, but you really livened it up. Plus, I always love Mary Engelbreit! What a fun quilt. :)
ReplyDeleteI would not call that cheating, I would call it unique and creative use of a panel, love what you did and somewhere a little girl is going to be very happy when she receives this.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration Paulette. I recently bid and won on a bunch of kids themed panels on ebay. I'm going to make for a charity that collects quilts and gives them to CPS to give kids when they need to remove them from their home. Lovin' this weather we are having! Still 80s here just across the border.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a fun quilt and whoever receives it will be very lucky.
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable and who cares that the center is a cheater! It will make a wonderful donation item and someone will love it when they get it!
