Vintage Nine Patch...

SEW...if you are a regular reader then you know that I have an official UFO closet....I'm not proud of it...but it's there and once in awhile, I try to deal with it.  From what I read, out there in blogland, I am not alone!  There are 'a few' quilters who have the same kinds of closets.  Oh sure, it may start out as a drawer..then move to a shelf  or a whole dresser...but before you know what has happened, you are sneaking off to the closet...OHhhh... it happens!:o)

So when I spotted this picture of an unusual nine patch quilt on Bonnie Hunter's Blog (scroll to the bottom of her page to see it), I thought of that tote full of random nine patches...yup we are talking a UFO... waiting to be freed...begging to be freed!...

Using Bonnie's picture, I drew out the layout design for the quilt using my 4 1/4" nine patch blocks...then started cutting...

Check out the pattern design...think two rows....a row of alternating nine patches and horizontal rectangles (11 3/4" x 4 1/4").  This is the top row.  Row 2 is the main row...more of the same rectangles but running vertically on either side of the 5 nine patches block.  Pretty darn easy!

Cut more rows...and your have got it!  Don't you love it!

Now to find some time to sew it all together...which won't be today!  I'm off to the Victoria Quilt Show with the 'girls'!  Thank goodness I can just close the door on my sewing room...and let it all
percolate and jell!  :o))  Believe me...these blocks are NOT going back into THAT CLOSET!  Tomorrow is another day!  Stay tuned...

Have a FUN Friday and happy stitching!~P

  1. I don't consider 9-patches UFO's. They are just a jump-start on a new, unknown, future quilting project. At my house, they just patiently wait, quietly, until one day they are needed (like baseball players in the minor league). Then one day they are called to move up to the major league and they hit a home run in a quilt. (My husband is a baseball fan). Blessings, Gretchen

  6. I give no excuses for my UFO closet. I also have UFO's in the sewing room not in that closet. Make plan to come to the quilter's sale after I die. You will have a ball! Or maybe I should just package them up and send them on now.
