I am starting to prep projects for handwork for our days on the road while traveling down to Southern California this year! Yeehaw…it’s almost time!! (For any new readers, my hubby and I are ‘snowbirds’…we fly the coop shortly after Christmas and head down south for warmer weather!!)
I have always wanted a REAL penny rug…a big one with lots and lots of pennies!
Here they are all nestled in their bed…ready for travel! I love these little tomato baskets…this one even came with a handle!
I think I’ll stitch little stars into the middle of each black penny…just need to get more Heat ‘n Bond…drats!
Have a Fun Friday and thanks for checking in with me!!

lOVE IT.
ReplyDeleteHave you used 505 Spray? Its the only thing I use to tack my wool down...does not gum up the needle either.
travelling in Louisiana now...I packed pennies..but haven't pulled them out....maybe on the plane home.
ReplyDeleteHeat and Bond? Does it not gum up the needle like other products do? Please help! Looking forward to the CA travels!
ReplyDeletePennies are a great project for travel, I worked on a large runner on trips.

Looks like a great travel project. When you say big, how big would that be. I love all those plastic containers, I use them quite often for storing small projects, and different coloured 1 1/2 inch squares as I use them quite often for little quilts.
ReplyDeleteLooks very interesting Paullett..when do you leave this year? I wanted to let you know; I loved your big flower quilting that I commented on a few days ago; so much that I kinda copied it on my quilt. Now yours are much neater....this is my first queen size quilt done on my Tiara...I am a hand quilter. But I had fun and love it!!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteFor the pennies you can save on your Heat/Bond by stapling the pennies together. Works great and doesn't damage the wool. Just how big are you going to make it?
ReplyDeleteHave you tried a stapler?
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to hear about your travels to Southern California. I have been living in New York now for 12 years but I am originally from So. Cal. Sometimes I really miss it! I'm also looking forward to seeing your penny rug grow. Did you cut all of those pennies yourself or did you purchase them precut? They are so perfectly round.
ReplyDeleteI love making pennies! I've only made small candle mat size penny rugs, but have always thought of making a much larger one too. Can't wait to see yours...I just know I'll love it!
ReplyDeleteLove your pennies, I think you need to do a mini tutorial on how you make them. Yours are really cute and hadn't really thought about them til I saw yours :)
ReplyDeleteI was wondering when the project preparation would begin for your annual trek way south. I look forward to your posts while you are away from home as there is always something new and interesting going on with your cohorts.
ReplyDeleteYour pennies are great. I use the new version of steam a seam 2 it works much better than the old version. Doesn't gum up your needle
