My sewing machine has been 'having a rest' as our focus has shifted to getting the yard ready for Winter. I'm hoping that all this trimming, pruning, weeding and digging will make Spring gardening so much easier and not so onerous! Once the rains come, (...did I say that with a little too much longing?:) I will be back in my sewing room as I have baby quilts to make! But for now, we have been enjoying beautiful, warm, sunny September weather here on the west coast of Canada!
Gardening has NOT put a halt to my evening hand work...which is slow and steady! I have seven blocks of my wee flower basket quilt done! Seven down...nine to go! They are a joy to stitch and are dang cute too....Have a peek!
These blocks will get trimmed down to 6"...so they are small! (I always leave a little bit extra to trim later after hand stitching, in case there has been some fraying or pulling.) I am using Diamond Textile fabrics for my background and felted woven wool for my applique. Threads vary to what I have...mainly wool threads, Aurifil and Genziana for the applique and Valdani Cotton for the embellishments and because the wool pieces are so small, I do a whip stitch or tack stitch and use a smaller needle.
The pattern for this wee quilt can be found in the Quiltmania Magazine #83 and is called "Jardin de Cure A Curate's Garden Pastorietuin"... which is why I can never remember it!
Sew there you have it! My report in for this week....
I hope your little corner of the world is busy and productive too...sprinkled with a lot of fun!
Have a wildly wonderful Wednesday and Happy Stitching!~P
Merry Christmas!!!

Your baskets are looking lovely Paulette, a stitch here another there. Done before you know it!
ReplyDeleteYour little baskets are so sweet, Paulette. I love the colours of the flowers and the background fabrics that you used. This quilt will look spectacular hanging on your wall.
ReplyDeleteOh, these wee baskets have stolen my heart!

ReplyDeleteLove these......so cute and sweet! Want them for my own...
ReplyDeleteOh these are so sweet! I'll bet the wool feels good in the hands this time of year!
ReplyDeleteI too am hoping to get the flowers beds put to "bed" before we leave for the winter. I finished quilting one of my own today--a Buggy Barn "Til The Cows Come Home." It's adorable! Love your little baskets. Are you guys staying home again this winter? How's that Mason doing?
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet little blocks. I love the backgrounds you chose.

Lovely little baskets Mrs.P. Thx for the hint re: smaller needle and whip stitch for tiny pieces. Great to learn something everyday
ReplyDeleteYour baskets are so cute! We need to get to work on fall yard work too. Will you head south for the winter or same home this time? Miss all your trips to the quilt stores with your friends.
ReplyDeleteIt appears you've been working on flower gardens both inside and out. Those wee little baskets are so delightful. I still have that page marked in the magazine
