I Spy...a New Project!

Can you guess what it's going to be?

If you guessed a hexie 'I Spy Quilt', then you would be correct!   I have used my GO! Fabric cutter to cut out these wonderful fabrics and I snagged a FREE pattern from Connecting Threads...which YOU can get it HERE!  This should be a fun one to make...care to join me?

I read an excellent post on 'From My Carolina Home' the other day.  If you send your quilts out for quilting or if you quilt your own, I guarantee that you will learn a ton from this lady!  Go HERE and soak it up...and then think about that quilt that you are about to send out...or quilt yourself!  Is it up to snuff?   Will it be a joy to quilt or will it be the quilt top from H-E-...double hockey sticks?  Thanks, Carole for showing quilters how to make the difference!

Have a Super Saturday and Happy Quilting!~P

  1. Thanks for sharing the link to that post. I know I've given my quilter a few challenge projects over the years, but I still want her to love me and I still want a quality finish. In the absence of a glaring error made my her, I am responsible for the outcome. I do my best to deal with my perfectionism expectation before the quilt and backing leave my hands. One thing that jumped out at me was that the author never mentioned stay stitching close to the border edge of the top to insure that edge seams stay intact and prevent raveling...there is quite tension placed on the top when those clamps go on and that's not a good time for your border seams to start popping open.
When all else fails, and I know there are issues that may be a challenge even though I've worked up a good sweat trying to beat them into submission...I include a little gift in the box...Fat Quarters, etc...but never anything that will melt and make a mess!

  2. Oh yes, it certainly reminds me how nice it is to have retired from quilting for others! I have only my own problems to deal with!

Your eye spy quilt will be lovely. Will you be hand piecing them?

  3. Thank you so much for linking to my post on loading the longarm. To answer Nancie, I address the stay stitching in my tutorial on Preparing Your Quilt for Longarm Quilting, and I have added that reference in the post. I'll be posting again on fixing some other types of problems later in the month. Thanks again for the link!

  6. That would be really fun with the fabric I have, but I have no plans on cutting those tiny triangles, lol.

  7. Thank you for the link. Do you remember the song "you can quilt that out" by Cathy Miller, the singing quilter? A long-arm quilter had made a video with pictures of a few of those "odd seams" and "slap and sew" borders:

  8. I spy your new fun project. Great idea to cut all the pieces cut with the Go. When I talk to my friends who quilt for others, they can sure tell some horror stories.

  9. You have a great selection of fabric for the I spy quilt! Look at those cookies! Will you machine sew? Also, a great read on the process of long arm quilting. Great perspective!

  11. Oh, the days of quilting for others! My quilting business has drastically fallen off in the last couple years and I've done nothing to make it increase again! :)) Wavy borders, FOUR inches excess fabric in the quilt body--I've seen it all and I've been told more times than I can count, "oh, you can quilt it out!"
