So that meant a shopping trip! :o))
My pattern called for a total of eighteen Fat Quarters...easy...right? Maybe not... the first Quilt Shop wouldn't cut Fat Quarters...WHAT? They will cut quarter yard cuts but NOT Fat Quarters...I was told that cutting FQs was labour intensive! Seriously...fabric is close to $20 a metre...and they won't cut me a $5 piece...times eighteen...that's almost $100 of fabric that they could have sold!! I need short and fat (18" x 22") cuts...not long and really narrow (9"x 44")...and I was not going to buy half metre cuts...that would have meant, double my cost and getting stuck with tons of left over PURPLE fabric! Yowzer!
So it was onto the next shop! Before I even looked at their fabric, I asked if they cut FQs...and the answer was of COURSE they cut FQs...silly question! They are a fabric store!! :o)) Music to my ears!
So...here's what I bought...
These FQs...
To go with these FQs...I may have to cull it a bit....
And of course this SWEET bundle found it's way into my shopping cart...I think I might have been in a mauve/purple mood because as you can see, there is mauve in that wee bundle...
Take a closer look....yup...that's PURPLE and it's all for ME! :o) Apparently I now LOVE purple! This fabric is called 'Plum Sweet' by Blackbird! Change is good...right?!
I also found some 'neutrals' as the 'Winter Tree Quilt' sucked my stash dry...and that will never do! These are half yard cuts because you can never have too much of a good thing!
And they all lived happily ever after....THE END! (play time!)
Have a terrific Tuesday and Happy Quilting!~P
Love your purple choices. It will be a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your purple baby quilt! My daughter and granddaughter are both purple people.
ReplyDeleteLook at the other items they missed selling you with such a silly policy! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with the purple fabrics!
ReplyDeleteThat's the same as a quilt shop saying they won't cut 1/8 yds--why, same amount of effort to cut a long 1/4--money is money.
ReplyDeleteI used to hate purple but then I found plum and violet shades. Now those are some lovely purples.:) Now I'm really going over to the dark side and finding some lavenders that I like? lol I agree that it's annoying when quilt shops won't cut fat quarters. Most shops actually have the FQ marked up so that it's more expensive than if you buy an actual 1/4 yd. That's okay with me if they will just cut the shape I want!
ReplyDeleteHmm, that first shop really missed out! The stores here have trays and trays and trays of precut fat quarters, especially for us quilty and drafty types.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you make out of these lovely fabrics, especially the FQ bundle for you! Hmmm I love purple but seem to buy the same tone endlessly! I have never heard of a shop refusing to cut you a FQ, seriously wondering how they are staying in business!
ReplyDeleteMany moons ago, I knew of a quilt shop that would only make fat quarters of what would not sell. So there was never anything interesting in them to make a purchase. I like a shop that has a big fat quarter section of new fabrics. And even better, one that has the fat quarters right in the same section as the bolts they came off of.
ReplyDeleteLove the purples you acquired. The fun prints you put them with really adds a spark, especially the green. But what I really love is your new FQ bundle. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI also dislike purple......it is a family joke as that is all my unknowing hubs would buy for me.....:). Ya gotta love em, those hubs!
ReplyDeleteOrange was the colour I wouldn't work with, now I love it. It seems so short sighted not to accommodate the customer. It looks like you found other interesting stuff to supplement your purchase.
ReplyDeleteMy local quilt shop has repeatedly annoyed me, I really try to keep my purchases there low. I love buying fabric where they don't say "no" all the time.
I look forward to seeing the baby quilt on the blog.
Helen
Yes, I don't get "no fat quarters" quilt shops--are you in the market to sell fabric or not?? My favorite shop in Billings won't cut fat quarters.
ReplyDeletePurple is also at the bottom of my list. And when they team it up with green, ugh. I do, however, love the plums in that Blackbird bundle that you chose, and I do like lavenders and mauves, as long as they are on the soft side of the colour. And I can't believe a fabric shop would not cut a fat quarter. As one person commented, "are you not in the market to sell fabric."
ReplyDeleteSorry you found a shop that wouldn't cut FQ's for you! it's their loss. I LOVE PURPLE! You could have called out to your Bloggy friends who have a vast stash, I could have shared.
