Our ‘day trip’ today took us to Mount Doug…a lovely oasis off to one side of Victoria. The Park didn’t open till noon so we decided to hike it. We started the trek as two pudgy middle age hikers…and ended it as two svelte, muscles rippling youngsters..dang I forgot to take before and after pictures?
The hike was all up hill…this is the beginning…slight grade…I forgot my camera so ran back…see the corner…straight uphill from there!!
It was VERY hot out…I used the excuse of taking pictures to catch my breath…thank goodness for the shade from these gorgeous fir and old oak trees!! Whew!!
These steps lead right to the tip of Mount Doug so that you get a 360 degree view!! SPECTACULAR!
It was so worth the climb!! As I mentioned, it was REALLY hot and humid and there was a haze off to the distance.
Here’s the city of Victoria…
Over to the left is Sidney..
The tip of Vancouver Island…on a clear day you can see the USA!! Darn…(I waved anyways!!)
We then went to the Mount Doug Park (which is right on the beach) to cool off…have a water and watch the dogs play…what a perfect day!!
The tide was just starting to go out so there was no sand yet….
Hey, I’ve got to put in a least ONE dog picture…Molly and Rylie LOVE the beach…SO smelly!! YUM!
I think it must be the quilter in me to love the rocky beach…awww…the colours and the textures….I’m ALWAYS looking for the perfect rock….
I am ALMOST half way finished the pennies on Quilt Sue’s Penny Rug! They are taking longer than usual as I am sewing on a wool felt back…the top is the good stuff- wool that I have felted…
…and on the back is wool felt. The pattern says to not bother with a backing but I find it just gives them a nice weight, they won’t ever fray and curl up…and finished they just look so dang pretty!!
This is the back of the tongue…I CAN’T wait to show you the finished RUG!!
So on our way home I just HAD to stop off at the Cloth Castle…I received a 40% off coupon in their Newsletter and I have had my eye on Carrie’s new book! (Notice how I said Carrie…like I know her or something…sheesh..I’m such a name dropper!! ;o) It was $34.99 and I just couldn’t pay that much BUT with 40% off, it brought the price down to $20.99- EUREKA!!…I danced my way into the Cloth Castle, grabbed the book, slapped the coupon down and did the Konga Line out the door…chanting SCHNIBBLES TIMES TWO..BOOM!
Hey where’s the line up behind me? Oh well…everyone already knows that I am slightly crazy…for Schnibbles that is….SCHNIBBLES TIMES TWO…BOOM!! Have you got yours yet??
Have a thrilling Thursday and Happy Quilting!~P
PS~ I might have some THRILLING NEWS but I don’t want to jinx it…so I’ll let you know as soon as I hear MORE!! :o)

Mt. Doug beach was a favourite place to ride my bike to in my youth! Thanks for bringing back fond memories. PS could you please correct the spelling to Sidney - don't think you could see across Cananda :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful place for a hike and gorgeous views. Of course you had to stop at a quilt store on the way home, lol.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all your lovely photos.
I have the schnibbles book as well- perhaps one day I will get one made from it. It is such a pretty book to look at- I bought mine from Connecting Threads- it was a good price there too.

ReplyDeletebeautiful sights!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get my hands on that book, but at the moment it's not available here - that's just SO unfair, she says, stamping her foot!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery, but it would look just as good, if not better, seen from the window of an airconditioned car.
