Five Bags Full...

What do you call it when a group of 'like minded' women meet once a month to exchange ideas, projects and talents?  Circle? Group? Assembly? Guild?  Nope...none of the above!  You call them BAGS!...as in Five Bags Full...of WOOL!:o))

Yup, there are five of us, Bags...but we consider that to be the PERFECT number... we can all fit into ONE car...and we are the perfect number to organize a meeting day...a time...a place... without it becoming a hassle!  We ended up calling ourselves THE BAGS after the nursery rhyme Three Bags Full..

We originally got together because of our love of WOOL...five women lugging their bags of wool projects for show and tell...For our first meeting we met in a home, shared a lunch, wool projects and lots of laughs!  We had such a good time that we decided to do it all over again...and again and again...!  That was almost two years ago!  We now meet monthly and we no longer meet in our homes...instead we go on field trip adventures...and we eat OUT...because we ALL want to have fun!  We call ourselves the Bags...oh man, the jokes that come out of being A BAG!  Some of us live in the Cowichan Valley and some are from Victoria, so we alternate destinations.  Wherever we end up meeting, it's a given that we always have FUN...and the talk is always focused around WOOL!  We have gone to Quilt Shows, Antique Quilt Shows, different Quilt Shops, a Wool Shop and Dye Shops, Antique and Vintage Shops...and just plain old shops....and then lunch and of course, show and tell!

At our Christmas meeting we decided that our focus for this year would be on making SEASONAL bowl filler pillows.  Last week was our January 'meeting'...We were each suppose to make a SPRING pillow for Show and Tell!

Here's our sharing...

This is a Maggie B. Pattern taken from one of her books..."Nature's Offerings"...This picture does not do it justice!  Simple and elegant...and very Springy!

I'm not sure what this pattern is called but it is sweet and screams Spring.  Look at the blustery day...blowing the lamb's ears back!  Love it!
This one is from JoAnn Mullaly Book, 'Wool Crazy'.  It's hard to beat a JAM Pattern!  Check out the needle and thread in the bird's beak! CUTE!
This one was taken from the new "100 Blocks Magazine"....improv branches with a sweet bird on the branch!

Of course a sweet lamb HAD to be in the mix!  I believe this was a Free pattern from one of the many BOW Blog Hops from years ago...

Loved this wee guy...He looks a bit surprised to be in the mix!

A random stray patchwork block made into a pillow...yes, they don't have to made out of wool!

And Spring Flowers made from Kathy Cardiff''s Pillow Book...

And all together!!!!  Doesn't the token bowl look wonderful and Springy!

I can't wait for our next meeting where we will reveal more Spring Pillows!!  I better get stitching or the Bags will be on my case!  :o))  See what I mean...they are such BAGS...and I mean that in a good way!:o)))

Have a thrilling Thursday and Happy Stitching!~P

  4. What a great idea. The pillow with the lamb with his ears blown back is so sweet. I'm always saying I'm going to start some wool projects and these small pillows might be the way to go.

  7. Do you make five of one pattern, and everyone ends up with five? That would be cool... But you would have a huge pile at the end of the year! They are awesome! Love the ears straight back one!

  16. How special! So much fun to have a regular group of crazy friends. And you are fortunate to all fit in one car! My group is the seven sisters and we have to borrow a van if we all want to go in the same car!
