It's a Finish...for Glynis!

Yup, it's a finish for Glynis!  Last Monday, Glynis was busy stitching down the binding on this sweet mat, which is a gift for her daughter!

When the magazine, 'Simply Vintage' arrives at a Book Shop in downtown Victoria, they phone Glynis to let her know that it's 'IN'.  Glynis phones her daughter, (who lives in Victoria) and asks her to pick it up for her...Of course, Glynis' daughter does just that... and in the process, flips through the magazine...spots this sweet mat and asks her mama to make it for her!  What's a mama to do but whip it and surprise her sweet daughter...after all, she wants these magazines to continue arriving at her doorstep...along with a visit from her DD!

Check out the low volume background fabric! Love it!  Glynis was saying that she still needs to add the eyes to her bird but other than that, this mat is ready for gifting!
Very pretty...and will look lovely on her daughter's wall/table come Spring!
Thanks for sharing Glynis...haha...like you had a choice!

Have a super Saturday and keep on stitching!~P

"SQUIRREL!!"

I believe it was Woolie Mammoth who said she has the attention span of a dog...shout the word 'Squirrel' and she was off onto another project.

Well...Woolie Mammoth and I have a lot in common...here was my 'Squirrel' for this week...STOCKINGS...found in Bonnie Sullivan's new book 'A Change of Seasons'...they are such fun to stitch and VERY sweet!

 The snowman is finished...

...but needs the twenty or so snowflake buttons to be sewn on and jazzed!  I know...this one looks more like a daisy...but I haven't finished...Just wait!
I have finished appliqueing the candy canes hanging on the branches...and now need to do the special effects...stitching the veins on the holly leaves, the stripes on the candy canes and adding the berry buttons....this is the FUN part!
The cardinal stocking is finished...and now I will play with how to finish this stockings off...I'm thinking a wee band of red, followed by a cuff of green...and of course the name at the top...

I have also been working on baby quilts...two tops done, two more in the works...but will save that for another day!

WHAT... it's FRIDAY...AGAIN?   It CAN'T be the LAST Friday of October...ALREADY?  Jeeze Louise, time is flying by!  I better stitch faster...:o))... and let's hope that another Squirrel doesn't cross my path!

Have a Fun Friday and Happy Stitching!~P

Short and SWEET...

Inquiring minds want to know how Claire finished off her SWEET Squirrel Pillow...

And frankly SEW did I!!!  It must be the lighting but it looks like there is a darker border running around this pillow...but nope!  Claire finished off this pillow by stitching a blanket stitch using a darker green thread!  Mystery solved...but oh, sew effective!  (click on the pillow for a larger view...)

That's it for today...that's all that I've got for you!  Just a reminder that this week is the beginning of Houston Quilt Market... and you know what that means...all of the designers release NEW PATTERNS and new fabrics...all I can say is..."NOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo"!  This is why I have so many UFOs!  Yup...it's all their fault!

Have a terrific Tuesday and Happy Stitching!

Get the WOOL OUT!

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times....It's SEW nice to have talented friends who like to share!...Claire, my friend and fellow woolie, has been busy!  She finished off her Buttermilk Basin Squirrel bowl-filler pillow in plenty of time to display it this Fall!  Dang cute too! Love that subtle border going  her pillow...how'd she do that?  Is it an actual border or just the use of darker threads?  Yes, this pillow needs to go under the microscope!  haha

And check out the Work In Progress...it's the Buttermilk Basin 'JOYOUS NOEL' mat that she just prepped...LOVE IT!!  It measures about 11" X 23", the perfect size for a Christmas Pillow!
Claire changed up the colours a bit, to make it her own.  You can see and order the pattern HERE! :o) This is going to be a fun one to see completed...so pretty!    I have no doubt that Claire will have it finished long before the tree goes up!  :o))

Thanks for the Show and Tell, Claire!  As usual, your projects inspire us to get the Wool Out!

Have a magical Monday and Happy Stitching!~P

SISTERS!

Yesterday I wrote about 'A Change of Season', Bonnie Sullivan's newest book!  I love it!  SEW many wonderful projects in this book but it was the 'Christmas Stockings' and the Autumn Quilt on the cover that caught my eye!

Isn't this Fall Quilt spectacular!!

Recently I bought another FAVOURITE book...found it in a quilt shop in Ottawa... and I haven't been able to put it down!  Such eye candy...
Oh man, Kathy Schmitz knows how to draw, design and stitch!

Just check out the workmanship!  Amazing!

So there I am with my TWO new books...my two new FAVOURITE BOOKS...both were released within months of each other, both written by two very talented and accomplished artists, both pertaining to quilting...and then it dawned on me...it was an "AAAHHHA moment...the moment  when I remembered that these two ladies are SISTERS!  Yup, they share the same DNA...the same gene that makes them wonderful quilters, the same gene that makes them incredibly talented artists, designers, stitchers!  I bet mom was a quilter...or maybe grandma...or maybe BOTH?  They had to have been influenced by someone to both take off in the area of quilting.  Maybe they influenced each other!  Regardless, I'm so happy that they both use quilting as a forum to release their creative talents!  We are the ones who benefit...we are the lucky ones!!

Their mother must be so proud!:o)

Both of these books are available on Amazon and Connecting Threads...just sayin'...

Have a Sunny Sunday and Happy Stitching!~P

My Newest Favourite...

Check out my newest FAVOURITE book....It's Bonnie Sullivan's 'A Change of Seasons', hot off the presses last month!

SERIOUS eye candy in this book...like this DDG (drop dead GORGEOUS) Autumn Quilt!  LOVE this quilt...it is SEW on my TO DO LIST!!

And well...with Christmas and Winter are just around the corner...this SWEET project didn't even reach the LIST!

Sometimes you just have to go with the urge and get 'er done!

My name is Sweet P and I endorse this ad!  (Geeze...do you think that I've been watching too much American TV...) BELIEVE ME...Make that a HEARTY endorsement! :o))

Have a super Saturday and Happy Stitching!~P

When It Rains...It Pours!!

When you write a blog there are no secrets!  I am THRILLED to tell you that my middle daughter and her husband are expecting a BABY BOY in FEBRUARY...:o)))
When asked what kind of a baby quilt she wanted, my DD picked a  low volume herringbone pattern...She didn't want bright, in your face fabric..so when I found Moda's 'Darling Little Dickens' fabric in Calgary I was THRILLED...this line of fabric has the sweetest prints...in soft subtle colours...

SO...I pulled out the pinks and set them aside...

...and whipped up some HST... and presto...herringbone pattern in the sweetest fabrics...EVER!
Yesterday I got four rows together before I called it a day!

It's going to be the perfect little quilt top for a baby BOY!!

What to do with all those PINK fabrics?

Why put it into the BABY GIRL quilt of course!  My eldest daughter and her husband are expecting a BABY GIRL in JANUARY!!! (Insert happy dance here!!) Yup, when it rains, it pours...and this GRAMMY is DRIPPING with excitement!!   It's going to be a very exciting 2017 for our families, filled with babies...one of each!  How blessed am I!:o)))  And you know what BABIES means...QUILTS, lots and lots of quilts....!  Stay tuned...! :o)))

Have a fun Friday and Happy Stitching!~P

The One That Got Away...

The one that got away is now stitched and is safely tucked into its new home!

The pattern for this sweet wee pillow came from a Primitive Gathering's Pattern called "A Few of My Favourite Things".

Hey, with this little sucker complete, I am officially finished stitching my Fall Bowl Fillers!  I have now got bowl fillers for each season! Yeehaw!

BUT..as you know, quilters are NEVER, EVER finished....As I put the final stitch into this wee Fall pillow, my thoughts shifted to....Christmas!  YIKES!  Did you know that there are only 65 more stitching days till Christmas?!  Yup...now that's food for thought!  The orange wool will get traded for some red and green...pumpkin thoughts will be exchanged for candy canes, reindeer and holly!! Yup...I can FEEL it...the shift is coming....!

Have a thrilling Thursday and Happy Stitching!~P

Renditions in Rags...

Earlier this year, The Five Bags Full discovered Val's Wool Shop...called 'Renditions in Rags'...You can read about our first trip HERE!  Well yesterday, we made a return trip...and I swear this shop continues to get better and better!

Check out the Shop...just a reminder that the shop is in Val's home.

There were tons of things for Sale as Val is having an Open House Sale this weekend!  (We didn't know...:o))

We were after wool remember...and man, Val HAS wool...and at a VERY reasonable price...$4 for fat eighths...baskets of them were on top of all the shelves!

... and $6 for Fat Quarters...there was a whole wall of them!  Metre lengths (39") were $15-18! (I didn't get a picture of these...darn!)

And then there were all the rugs for sale!  LOVED that wee framed chickadee at the bottom!

 The sweetest little woolie lambs...
The lavender sachets were so fragrant that we each had to buy one and then Val ended up gifting them to us!  She is such a sweet lady!
The penny rug pillows were gorgeous!!  Val and her hubby went on a road trip this summer and she ended up making a million pennies during the drive!  She turned them into pillows!  Isn't that red and green one perfect for Christmas (above right hand corner!)!!

Check out the wool kits that Val has put together...(below left...on the rack)!  Imagine a large pack of wool for $6!!
And lovely, lovely rugs...some vibrant and others muted, but all beautiful!

AND I loved these wool corn husks!  Wouldn't they look wonderful tucked in with my bowl-filler pillows!  They were part of a class that Val teaches.

Val was even selling signs for her neighbour!  They were wonderful, painted on old barn wool...

Some times it's the small things in life that brings the most joy...WOOL CANDY for 50 cents each!!!  EUREKA!!
Yup, I was so deep in this basket that all you could see were my feet sticking out!

 Check out my loot...

A fat quarter of this brown/beige wool...perfect for making pine-cones or baskets!

I was dancing up and down when I found these two green fat eights...I had bought this green wool on my last visit and had used it all up...loved it!  Perfect for leaves and stems!

All of this wool (below) was from the Candy Basket...50 cents each!  Such a BARGAIN!  Lovely hand dyed wools and big pieces too!
And the lavender sachet that Val gifted to each of us!  Made our wool even sweeter...if that's possible!

Thank YOU, Val, for another lovely visit!

If you are visiting the Chemainus area (Chemainus is in between Duncan and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island) then swing by and visit Val.  Her shop/home is open Tuesdays and most Fridays and Sundays.  You can get more information on her Facebook page..but make sure you check with Val at Renditions to Rags Hooked and Braided Rugs before you drive over!  I don't want you to miss out!  Also if you want to see MORE of what Val has to offer, then check out her FB page...tons of pictures of the wonderful projects that she teaches!  If you are into wool...and live on our Island then it is certainly worth the drive up/down...and make a day of it!  There are lots of great places to eat and shop while in Chemainus!

Have a wild and woolie Wednesday and Happy Stitching!~P

We are BAGS and proud of it...

You are in for a WOOLIE treat this morning as there was a meeting of THE BAGS!  Yes, the 'Five Bags Full' met...we shopped, shared, laughed and of course ate a wonderful lunch, before heading home with wild and wonderful, woolie thoughts dancing in our heads!  Our 'monthly' truly inspires us to keep on stitching!

Sandy outdid herself with her wee bowl fillers...Fall/Halloween is the theme...I can't remember the patterns...but this is a favourite of mine!  So cute!

I think this is a Buttermilk Basin...dang sweet!
 And together they are adorable!
 Here's Claire's....
Aren't they SPOOK-tacular!  All are from Buttermilk Basin patterns.  No one designs like the incredible Stacy West!  WOW!
And some close-ups of her perfect workmanship...

 Just BOOtiful!

And just look at Claire's little framed wool stitchery!  STUNNING!  The pattern was free from one of this years' bloghops!  SEW perfect in a wee frame!

And this is a WIP...a Buttermilk Basin pattern!  Dang sweet!

As you know, Glynis is no slouch...She finished her Cheri Payne BOM...DDG! (drop dead gorgeous!) I forgot to take close-ups...but I'm sure she will bring it to Heritage for sharing, once it's quilted!  Stay tuned...

Glynis made two of the SWEETEST mats...one for Winter...
And one for Fall!  Both are gorgeous!  The patterns (Canning Jar Bouquets) are hot off the press and can be found over at Wooden Spools' website!  Would you believe that for $9 you can get all FOUR mat patterns...one for each season!  Just go HERE to order!
And a close-up of her gorgeous work!

Love the oak leaves and fancy stitches on her wee bowl filler!  Like icing on the cake!

And last but not least,  Julie created this lovely heart pillow which she hangs on a special stand made especially for it! Very sweet!

So there you have it...our Show and Tell for October (In case you missed it, my sharing was done HERE:o)  ...

SEW...were YOU inspired enough to get out your bins of wool and patterns?  I know I was!...Man, it's hard to keep up with these BAGS!  (haha...I love our name!!)  We are BAGS and proud of it!

Have a terrific Tuesday and happy stitching!~P
