It’s ALL About the Loot!

While I was at Traditional Pastimes Quilt Shop in Calgary, I spotted THIS QUILT!!  It’s called Star Garden and is a Timeless Tradition Pattern designed by Norma Whaley. [If you bought the special issue of Quiltmania Magazine (the one with the Pomegranate Quilt on the cover) than you already own this pattern!!  OR you may own the Geoff’s Mom version.]

Anyways..it stopped me in my tracks!!  Such a beautiful quilt…and the colours were wonderful…the greens are almost a grey and the reds are on the burgundy side.

Check out the close-up photos…

Lovely quilting too!!

P1240744P1240745P1240746P1240747

Nice, eh?!  SEW nice that I brought the kit!!

P1240832

It was a BOM kit put out by the shop for their Jan Patek Club… even though it’s not a Jan Patek pattern.  Inside the organza bag were little packages like this one….

P1240833

…and when the bag is flipped over you can see that they have included this reference sheet with the pattern.  They have proved fabric samples with the corresponding list of what each piece of fabric is to be used for!  This whole kit idea just got better…and a whole lot easier!  Brilliant!  I can’t wait to get started on this beauty!!

P1240835

At the “Out of Hand Quilt Shop” I found four Quiltmania Magazines…past issues that I don’t have!!  Eureka!!  (These magazines are hard to find and in my opinion GOLD!!)

P1240830

I also bought a half yard of green wool, a new thimble, straw needles and at the Janome Sewing Centre I bought a new 1/4” Seam Foot (my old one was attacked and destroyed by a t-pin!)

A HUGE Thank You to Lori, a blog follower, who directed me to all of the Calgary Quilt shops that she thought I would like!!  Man, she knows me well!!

P1240831

I was feeling petty good about my purchases…then I got home to even more Loot!  Yup… I got MAIL…lots of it!!

P1240814

My SIX cones of Glide thread arrived!!  Yippee!!  It’s the thread that I ordered for the mid-arm and is a fraction of the cost of the thread that I have been using!!  Let’s fire up that machine…!!

P1240815

My Primitive Quilt and Projects Magazine arrived…Love this magazine!!

P1240818

As usual there was lots of gorgeous eye candy…like this sweet quilt that Laural Lane (Simply Put Plus)  designed!!  You can read all about it on her Blog!

P1240820

I also LOVE this beauty, designed by Christine Schultz of Enchanted Mountain Quilting!!

P1240825

And who knew that Nancy from Tom Miner Quilts Blog  was a designer?  She did a wonderful job on this star quilt!!  It looks SEW warm and cosy…and love the colours!  It’s called ‘Montana Stars’ and is a winner in my books!!  How exciting to also be on the cover of Primitive Quilts magazine!!

P1240827

I also won this Give Away pattern from Quilted Crow Girls Design Blog!!  THANK YOU ladies!!  I love it!  It’s a cotton and wool pattern which is right up my alley…and I have the green wool to prove it!

P1240817

Geeze, I have got to go away more often!!  :o)

Thanks for stopping by…hope you liked looking at the loot…now it’s time to scoot!!  The Witching hour is drawing near and it’s going to cut into my stitching time I fear!!  ~P as in Poet, who didn’t Know It!:0}}

HAPPY HALLOEEN!!

Blogger’s Quilt Festival 2013

It’s THAT time of year again!!

If you guessed the Blogger’s Quilt Festival…then you would be spot on!

                Fall-BQF-Button-e1380294012428

I have GOT to be a part of Amy’s fun…YIKES!  I almost got left behind!! The last day to enter the show is Oct. 31…SEW I had better hustle!

This year I would like to enter a quilt that I just completed for my daughter’s friends’ baby…so of course it would go in the Baby Quilt Category! They just had a beautiful baby boy…and they named him ARTHUR!  With a sweet name like that, I just had to make an extra SWEET QUILT!

What do you think?  Did I achieve my goal?P1240429

A tower of hexies came crashing down…well that doesn’t sound very GOOD…let’s say they came floating down all over Arthur!

P1240430

Colourful enough for a boy…or a girl!

P1240435

And soft minkie on the back…and notice the RED big stitch hand quilting around Arthur’s name for an added POP!

P1240440

Little Arthur seems to like it…and that’s all that matters!!

Yup…THIS is why quilters quilt!  Is little Arthur not the cutest baby EVER!  He’s adorable in every way!

If you would like to make this quilt then feel free to use my tutorial…which you can find HERE!  Enjoy!

Thanks SEW MUCH, Amy, for yet another great Blogger’s Quilt Festival!!

Please remember to go to Amy’s Blog to view all of the wonderful quilts!!  They are all amazing!!  I believe voting starts on November 1st!

Traditional Pastimes…part TWO!

SEW…we are still in Traditional Pastimes Quilt Shop here in Calgary, Alberta!!  What a shop…such EYE CANDY and such wonderful people!  I mentioned in Part One how super the owner was…my daughter and I got the royal tour and her helper was just as nice!  I love a shop where the staff makes you feel welcome and appreciated!  One of the ladies mentioned to my daughter that they have a Modern Quilt Club meeting once a month and Erin was certainly more than welcome to join in!  In fact they have several different Clubs meeting monthly…one being the Jan Patek Club!  Man, would I love that!  (Do you think my hubby would miss me if I disappeared for a couple of days every month?:0)

There was a Club Meeting while we were there and these lovely ladies were VERY friendly!  They kindly invited us to pull up a chair and join in…unfortunately we had people to see…places to see…Quilt Shops to conquer!  (Did I mention that all of these drop in Clubs are FREE?!!)

P1240733

OK…back to the shop tour…isn’t it funny how you can look at your pictures and see a quilt that you didn’t notice before…like this one!!!  LOVE IT!!…but I didn’t REALLY SEE it while at the shop!!  If I had, then that quilt pattern would have come home with me!!

P1240725

There were little Halloween vignettes throughout the shop….

P1240726P1240727

…with spooktacular Halloween quilting on the quilts!

P1240732

Tons of books…in both tradition quilts and modern!

P1240734

Did I mention that there was a Lynette Anderson section in the store?!  This quilt was exquisite…and such a lot of work!!  YIKES!! And ALL hand quilted in teeny tiny stitches!!  Just perfect!

Both Erin and I LOVED the newsprint background fabric in these two pillows!!  It must have been a hot seller as it was all gone!!  I am now on the hunt!

P1240749P1240750

This quilt was massive and absolutely breathtakingly beautiful!!  Wish I could remember the name and the designer…but then it’s way beyond my expertise!!

P1240751

This picture doesn’t do this simple quilt justice…it’s those fabrics!  Lovely!

P1240753

SEW…there you have it!  I’m sure that Quilt Sampler Magazine must have visited this shop…because if they haven’t they really SHOULD!!  One of the nicest shops that I have ever been in!!

Tomorrow I will show you the Calgary LOOT…and the hiking pictures!  Well worth the trip back!

Speaking of trip back…I can’t wait to go back to Traditional Pastimes…so much that I didn’t SEE!! I mean REALLY see!  haha

Have a terrific Tuesday and happy stitching! ~P

Traditional Pastimes Quilt Shop…

My long weekend in Calgary was AWESOME!  It was jam packed with out of this world quilt shops, amazing food, INCREDIBLE hiking trails, playtime with my two ginormous and rambunctious grand-dogs and time spent with new-to-quilting daughter… with dribs and drabs of her BF here and there!! The poor guy had to put up with quilt talk/girl talk the whole weekend!!

I took 55 pictures of my FAVOURITE Quilt Shop…so I will have to space them out over a couple of days so that you get to savour them all!

So enough of the small talk…here is TRADITIONAL PASTIMES QUILT SHOP!! Let me just shout this out to the world… “I LOVED this shop”!

P1240700 - Copy

This is Bernadette the owner of the shop…the nicest lady that you will ever want to meet!!  She was so friendly and helpful…as was her staff! She was a real dynamo!!

P1240715

When I asked Bernadette about a pattern that she had on her BLOG (from a few years ago) Bernadette took me downstairs to the classroom where ALL the ‘old’ quilts are stored!!  Man, it was like opening up Fort Knox!!  Talk about QUILTS!!  Piles and stacks of gorgeous quilts…let me show you a small sampling…

P1240702 - CopyP1240703 - CopyP1240705 - CopyP1240706 - CopyP1240707P1240708

These were just a few beauties buried in the stacks!  WOW!!

P1240709

Then back upstairs there was a quilting customer waiting to show Bernadette her finished quilt…and it was the Quilt that I was asking about!!  Freaky!  I will talk more about this quilt at a later date…:0))

P1240710

What I really liked about this shop was the mix of traditional (for me) and modern for my daughter!!  We were both happy…and busy!

P1240711

Such eye candy!!

P1240712

My heart STOPPED when I saw this quilt!!  It’s a Norma Whaley pattern called Star Garden!  Bernadette said it was a past BOM that their store featured!!  Beautifully done in reds and greens that were almost greys!  Loved it!  (I ended up buying their last kit!!…but I bet Bernadette would make up more…she’s THAT nice!)

P1240713

It is also WAY nicer in ‘real’ life!!

P1240714

Feast your eyes on this Lynette Anderson’s Secret Garden Quilt!!  Magnificent!

P1240716

Here I am going to let you wander…P1240717

YES, she had WOOL!!  And plenty of wool patterns!!

P1240719P1240720P1240721P1240722P1240723

Traditional Pastimes even has a Jan Patek CLUB!  Be still my heart!!

P1240724

Yikes!!  I am late for Heritage Quilting…more of this shop tomorrow…and if I can squeeze in any of our hiking pictures I will!!  After all we DO need a little bit of exercise!

Have a great day and thanks for coming with us to Traditional Pastimes Quilt Shop!!  While you wait for the rest of the pictures, you might like to visit their website and their BLOG, La Piazza!  You won’t be sorry!
